Kirklees - switch from GP to Locala for injections.

Kirklees health authorities have recently (1/7/24) switched from B12 being delivered by local GP practices to Locala (our local community health service that provides a variety of health services eg health visitors, speech therapy etc).

I’m 10 days away from my injection time, still waiting to hear from them. Rung new provider and been told to ring back in a few days if I haven’t heard anything.

Fear they have bid to deliver a service that they now are struggling to meet. And also am concerned for the wider population of patients who need B12 injections and can’t just pop in their car and drive 5 miles down the road to get it every 3 months.

Just wondering if anyone else has had success with getting an appointment? How stroppy will I need to get on the phone!? 😬

Not heard of Locola.Makes it very difficult to access bh the sounds of it.

It happened here in Essex.

Provide

are based 20 miles away and despite winning the bid do not provide the same level of service in any area of health.

Cheaper but awful.

The HV service seems to be placing scales in a room as s drop in self weigh your own baby!!

No one yo help or discuss any worries with..

. All staff gathered in an office behind glass windows .

Really odd and unbelievable.

My mum has hef b12 knjection done by the district nurse.

Well not s nurse an HCA band 2 or 3 trained up to do them.

Its been stopped 3 times now as B12 the lowest priority.

So far thd surgery still do B12 injections though if you csn attend locally.

Surely better to prescribe and do at home IM or sc !!

I do hope in your area it works better witb this outsourced community service.

Scientist, not medic. Looking on the positive side, it just might actually work. [Then again...] It should ensure that all patients get the same level of service, but that might mean some get an improvement, and some don't. Good luck with this one, and keep us informed!
