Issuing results in numeric form for a test that effectively needs a 'Yes/No' answer is not very helpful. However, it certainly looks as if you've got a positive result. There's little point in repeating it, although in time the 'antibody' level might well increase. There are numerous ways of detecting IFAb, but the important thing is 'Positive is Positive'! Other websites may well be using different methods, so it's impossible to compare between sites.
Make sure you keep a copy of that positive diagnosis in a safe place.
In past there have been forum members whose treatment was stopped and when they queried it they were told that there was no record of their PA diagnosis.
I left info that might be of interest on this recent thread.
Hi mully, I am very glad that you are going to be getting B12 injections, but stunned that you were not already on them. A quick look back at your old posts shows how low you were years ago and with symptoms, demyelination etc it makes me angry and sad that you were on your own with this. They should not have given you folic until they had started B12 treatment and it may have made the problem worse, or at least obscured the signs of deficiency. I hope you soon start to get some improvement. (Funny talking to a mully, I was at school with one many many years ago but we lost touch). Best wishes
The equivocal range is for the case where some have PA and some do not when they fall into that range. The test has a high false negative rate, so you can have PA and still test as negative. In your case though, the result is clear: you have PA. You will need B12 supplementation for the rest of your life. You do not need to have the B12 tested after you start supplementing. It often comes out high and some doctors erroneously conclude you do not need to continue supplementing. Find a dosage schedule that keeps all the symptoms at bay.
Hi just wanted to say that my son is called Mully. It's the first time in 28 years that I have found someone else with that name.Good luck with your treatment. I self inject every other Friday instead of the 3 monthly jab from my GP.
