I know Nitrous Oxide can cause b12 deficiency, but could Nitrogen Dioxide do it too?

I had low b12, took ppi and h2 before Mt body crashed.

But I also realised that we did an experiment in the labs I was working in, when my body began to feel awful, around the time I started PPIs (before my body totally crashed months later)

I know Nitrous Oxide messes with b12...

Does anyone know if Nitorgen Dioxide can do the same?

We used Nitric Acid, and had a reaction where Nitrogen Dioxide gas was a product.

We used a fume cupboard, but we had to lean over to swirl the beaker, I know it's a stretch... but if anyone is a chemist or biochemist out there?

Worth exploring all avenues, and asking the questions...

I just realised that apparently when nitrous oxide depletes b12, but literature has it that withing X amount of time it should go back up 🤷🏻‍♀️

And the timings might be off for me cos the lab was in Jan, my HUGE crash was in September after PPI and H2 - so those seem to have been the added issue for me.

Hi Suffering_sunny,

The answer is I do not know with regards to Nitrogen Dioxide. I feel one of the most important focuses is recovery. How to get better, that is the aim. wedgewood provided you with links to sources.

Then once you are on the road to recovery, you are walking properly, less symptoms then you can possibly start unpicking the why. Some people never have answers, they just say, Well, I think my mum had it. All she said was she had to go for an injection. Her dad used to eat lots of liver.

I do not think anybody here has had genetic testing for the disease as I would speculate that it is far too costly and I have no idea where it would be available in the U.K.

According to Ungar B, Mathews JD, Tait BD & Cowling DC (1981) HLA-DR patterns in pernicious anaemia. British Medical Journal (Clin Res Ed) :-

The HLA-DR15 belongs under the HLA-DR2 group, which has been associated with pernicious anemia.

We tend to use our energy wisely. Today, I left a meeting to manage my own fatigue. My brain was struggling with the bright lights and many conversations. I never apologise for having a disease and do things on my terms.

Thank you for the last paragraph. That's the right attitude toward managing fatigue and I appreciate being reminded.

You are so right,

I guess I can make myself feel even worse by searching for the 'whys', but what really matters now is treatment and healing ❤️

Yes, it is embracing your ‘inner sloth’. The Nervous System has the ‘rest and digest’ part - the parasympathetic system. It just loves lying about doing very little. 🦥

Or as I would say, Cwtch down, cariad. (Snuggle down, lovely).

Have a look at this old post:

(I couldn't spot the offensive language either!)

Very interesting!

We used nitric acid and it was an oxidising reaction.

So there is scope that this began there, I already sat low, and the PPIs just compounded the issue.

The fact, for me, is that, unbeknownst to me at the time, I sit low for b12, so I am vulnerable.

Thank you for this thread, purely for my analytical side, and newly working in a lab environment, as I find these things very interesting.

For me now, the focus needs to be healing, no matter the cause.

💛

I think that is the very important message. Often, the cause is important if it can be avoided in the future. But the current vital issue is to address the deficiency.
