Hi

I've recently had this result

Intrinsic Factor Antibodies

1.33 AU/mL

Range

<1.2 Negative

1.2-1.53 Borderline

>1.53 Positive

how can this be?

surely anything over 1.2 is positive or is my brain too feeble to understand🥴

any thoughts would be appreciated🙃

Scientist, not medic.

If we lived in a perfect World, life would be far simpler. But we don't. Half the time with many tests we spend time trying to distinguish between 'signal' and 'noise'. The tests we use lack the degree of precision to allow 'Positive/Negative' and nothing 'equivocal' in the middle. Quoting numbers for something like an IFAb result does little to add value to the result. Personal experience suggested that a repeat test in 3 months would probably clarify matters. If it really is positive, it'll become 'more positive' but it may fall, and become a clear negative.

Good luck with this; I know how frustrating this can be!
