This article is beyond me. I am posting it because it seems relevant on the face; in addition, it is a 1969 article, and full text of articles from the 1960s and 1970s are rarely available, which would seem to suggest that this article is a special case. Therefore, some people on this forum might be interested in the article.

From the Discussion section:

"If, indeed, such a complex does form in the gastric parietal cell in pernicious anaemia, or other forms of atrophic gastritis, and if the complement sequence is initiated, this could result in complement induced injury to the parietal cell. This, in turn, would lead to anacidity and secretory defect of intrinsic factor, resulting in vitamin B12 deficiency."

Interesting indeed, thank you. Shall read again when more awake. Hadn't considered complement affecting parietal cells. I know my complement levels were a bit odd a few years ago but no-one seemed to think it mattered....

Thanks for your comment. "Complement" is new to me, so I wasn't understanding what the article was about and was far too tired to look it up, and was afraid that if I waited to post, the whole thing might fall off my radar. I am happy and relieved to hear that there is indeed an interesting aspect to the topic of the paper.

Mine was tested in connection with connective tissue disease - no pun intended! Can be altered in autoimmunity and renal disorders.
