Access to medical records changed

Apparently most GP practices are making records available from this month. However, I already had access to my detailed coded record but now all past entries and results have disappeared - it seems we are only getting access to new entries. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi

I didn't know our GP medical records are going to be available to us as from this month. I'm not surprised 'old' records might not be available as GPs will have been confident that a patient can't read their notes until a GP has checked them first. That gives the GP opportunity to 'remove' any that could be libelous. GPs, and other professionals, will now be much more careful as to what they write about a patient, of course. However, I suspect there will be a fast-developing 'code', or some method, to add their true feelings to notes, that a patient wouldn't decipher!!! Hmm ... I don't believe a patient will see any 'true' record, to be honest (and very cynical) LOL

Apparently the staff are being 'trained' in what patients will see, so obviously they will be careful what they write - although there is still a difference between 'detailed, coded records' and 'full clinical records'. To be honest I don't care so much what their opinions are, as long as I can see my results etc. in order to keep a check on my health (and argue with them if necessary ;) ).

Yes, I agree re seeing your test results, as long as you know what they represent etc. Many 'jo public' just aren't interested because they don't understand them but it's often to their own detriment. I always offer to help relatives interpret results or to suggest something but, too often, they just trust the professional's to know what they're doing. I suppose ignorance can be bliss LOL ;) Personally, I scrutenize my results, much to the doctor's annoyance, but there you go, eh? :)

I've had this ever since I started enquiring. Doctors' notes inaccurate, often just impossible. What I am trying to find are my old paper notes which still exist somewhere but no-one can say where. Hospital notes I got - with a fight - but even they miss the first 45 years of my life.

My understanding is that records have been available for quite a long time, but only those after some date in the 1970s. This was to hide the nasty comments doctors used to put on notes. Anyone here a hypochondriac?
