Hi,

I hope you find a GP who really listens to you.

Are your GPs going to refer you to any specialists? Maybe a haematologist?

Have you been taking B12 supplements or having B12 injections privately?

High B12 levels if you have not been taking B12 supplements and not having B12 injections can sometimes be a sign of a serious health condition.

Has the GP ordered liver and kidney function tests?

It is possible to have B12 deficiency symptoms with serum b12 levels that are above range.

You and your GP may want to investigate the possibility of Functional B12 deficiency if you have symptoms consistent with B12 deficiency with a high serum B12 result.

This is where there is plenty of B12 in the blood but it's not getting to where it's needed in the cells.

See Point 5 in link below.

See section on Functional B12 Deficiency in link below.

MMA and Homocysteine tests can help to diagnose Functional b12 deficiency.

I'm not medically trained just someone who suffered for years from unrecognised and untreated B12 deficiency.

There's a lot more on B12 deficiency I could pass on so just let me know if you want more information.

The site of B12 absorption in the gut is the terminal ileum, part of small intestine.

If you've had surgery in this area. I'm guessing the terminal ileum may be missing or damaged in some way.

Have you been able to access medical notes from your early life as it might say something about having B12 injections?

Might be worth searching online for "BSG (British Society of Gastroenterology) Guidelines for Management of Patients with a Short Bowel."

These are aimed at health professionals.

Links to forum threads where I left detailed replies with lots of B12 deficiency info eg causes and symptoms, UK B12 documents, B12 books, B12 films, B12 websites and B12 articles and a few hints on dealing with unhelpful GPs.

Some links may have details that could be upsetting.

Some of the info will be specific to UK.

On the photo only a section of your results is showing so I am unable to see enough to comment on these.

Do you have symptoms of a b12 deficiency? My uncle had the part of his bowel removed where b12 is absorbed when he was a young man and has received b12 injections every 6 weeks since the operation.

Not what you're looking for?
