Thought this was interesting...

I am not surprised that scientists have a theory that high levels of fructose lead to a form of food addiction and this leads to inflammation, resulting in Alzheimer's. I hope this is a step in the right direction to indicate that diet is a fundamental trigger in neurological disease, as patently indicated by B12 deficiency resulting in neurological complaints.

I have long believed that sugar is at the basis of most of illnesses. When my cat got cancer I was devastated. I read up on how to help her and found out that cancer feeds on sugar. There were medical trials ongoing on the effect of low sugar diets on people with cancer. Well it worked on my cat. I fed her raw salmon. I had to supplement her diet with vitamin B as an enzyme in raw fish destroys thiamine, She lived for another 21 months - much to the vet's amazement. My hands continually stank of raw fish as I had to cut it up into small pieces. On the upside my hands became very soft as salmon is very oily.

Since then I have tried to eat as little sugar as possible.

You are absolutely right and I lost my younger brother to prostate cancer. Whilst I was advising a diet of no sugar or meat but high in veg, nuts and oily fish etc, he improved dramatically … then the NHS got hold of him feeding him lots of sugar and meat and within 6 weeks we lost him.

The NHS policy can be as much as 20 years behind current research and in terms of diet it is way off target. Cancer cannot thrive in an alkaline environment and generally meat, dairy and sugar are acidic whilst fermented foods and most fruit and vegetables are alkaline. In the “developed” world we have lost sight (and knowledge) of preventative medicine as the money is in prescriptions for symptoms. Sounds cynical I know but money talks …

Visit the prostate cancer forums here and you'll see a big trend for plant-based as that seems to be where the science is pointing. Hopefully they do also get their B12 right and the other important nutrients.

Why sugar and meat? There's no sane dietician/nutritionist who would recommend that so I'm not sure what the NHS were smoking at the time...

I have no idea but they put him on high sugar/ high protein drinks, cereal with high sugar content for breakfast, lots of jam and bread, sausages and chips and a few peas if lucky, chicken and ham pie, steak and kidney pie and chips galore - followed by an iced sponge of some description and super sweet custard or super sweet rice pudding with jam.

When he asked for porridge for breakfast with almond milk with a fresh banana and fresh berries like blueberries he was told they don’t do that! When he asked for a jacket potato with tuna, onions and sweetcorn and a salad - they couldn’t do it. No salads no fresh fruit or veg. Even in the hospice it was the same.

It’s two years today since he died. It’s really hard. He was the first person I had to do CPR on - I will never forget that day. Sorry guys - it’s easy to share anonymously than with people I know. Sorry. 💔

Thats insane. Thats a diet I would design for somebody if I wanted to kill them through their diet as quickly as possible. Seriously. Thats madness. Everything in that diet is the opposite of what decades of nutritional research recommends. I'm speechless. I hope those involved will be convicted as they certainly should be. Where did they come up with the idea that such a diet could possibly be good for anyone let alone someone who was seriously ill.

How awful that your Mum died due to choking with food in a Hospital

I read the same article, Pickle. It certainly is food for thought (no pun intended).

Speaking of prostate cancer, there is something you can do frequently that's a lot more fun than injecting and, contrary to older theories, actually lowers risk of prostate CA significantly:

We were told we had issues due to our stomachs not absorbing vitamins. So after weeks of researching I discovered one night when checking out our food that all the food in the house contained no Vitamin B12 nor any other vitamins for that matter. So how are we to absorb any Vitamin B12 from our diets when the food has nothing to absorb?
