Infection and b12

Hi all,

Quick question, my ultrasound results came back and they said my 2 swollen lymph nodes (in neck)were a natural reaction to my body fighting an infection. When I was diagnosed with a deficiency/P.A, they said I had hemoglobin issues (cant remember exact details). Could these lymph nodes be swollen due to hemoglobin problems caused by b12. The doctor sounded like she was in a hurry and couldnt really ask any questions, the situation was fairly rushed.

Thanks for any responses :)

Sounds like you probably had macrocytosis - larger rounder red blood cells - which is a common outcome of B12 deficiency.

Not a medic but I don't see how that would cause swollen glands.

B12 also supports the immune system, so the swollen glands are much more likely to be related to the immune system starting to function properly again. As most of the symptoms we associate with being unwell are down the healthy functioning of the immune system it isn't uncommon to feel quite unwell as that starts to kick back in again.

When I got my B12 levels to where they should be again I had the most horrendous cold with a runny nose that I hadn't had for several years. Just the body being able to fight infection properly again.
