Criticized for frequency of b12 injections

How to respond to the criticism about your b12 shot regimine or how often you get it (from people thinking it’s a waste of $ since your body pees out the extra it can’t absorb, people giving unsolicited med advice like nurses or docs) people in passing and you don’t have time to give the whole schpiel or hand out primary sources - what to say in response under pressure. I’ve said a few times - I’m deficient, my doc ordered me to get them X times a week, I have an autoimmune condition - they still don’t believe me and are trying to convince me I get it too often and I’m wasting my money. Mostly from nurses or people from med spas I have to go to when online orders are out of stock or backordered online (when I cannot SI).

Wow! Purplegirl2 that is so heart-breaking to read but sadly you are not unique.

I am Registered Disabled partly because of my P.A. but to look at me there is nothing to "see" that is wrong with me. My firm kindly gave me time off every four weeks to get my B12 injections done at my surgery and I was often questioned "what's wrong with you??"

Mind you this was fifty years ago and with the help of this forum attitudes are changing and hopefully you will be given some good advice on here.

Take care now.

I wish you well

I agree with you Clive. purple girl is in the same boat as the rest of us. Ticking along nicely then some body comes along and decides you look ok, B12 ok so what you have PA you dint need B12 anymore then the fight begins. I’m dodging a know it all nurse at the minute and made a point of having my bloods done then my B12 which can you believe it came back showing low and I was pleased to justify my shot! How sad is that. 46 years for me since PA diagnosis and was so low a few months ago but thanks to people like you on this forum it’s made me want to keep fighting.

Take care everyone. Solidarity to all x

"there is nothing to "see" that is wrong with me.

A good case of don't judge a book by its cover.

An often mistake made by all. Its what goes on inside that matters which people can't see !

Totally understand.

You do jot have to justify to anybody what b12 frequency you need.

If they are really interested they will read up on it like we have had to do and help you ,not criticise you.

An invisible medical condition.

Try and keep as well as you csn.

Kerp the energy you have for you and thise that bother to find out .

I am sorry to hear of the upset these people cause you. It makes me furious that they should take it upon themselves to intrude into your life. If you can do it, take the opportunity to step back and silently observe them. Remark silently to yourself how miraculous it is that these insentient people are able to make it through this world at all. Surely God must go out of his way to care for the brutes. Well, enough time taken! Smile, say nothing since they have demonstrated that they do not perceive, and, refreshed, go on with your day.

Every single medic I've spoken and the people around me 'worry about how much I inject'. I don't tell people anymore, since it's my body. And their ignorance is non of my business.

The issue boils down to the simple truth that no-one on planet earth is an expert in B12. Even the so-called experts don't know everything.

What on earth did people do before these forums? They must've ended up in the loony bin. But also, some years ago I think it was easier to get hold of B12 ampoules.

When B12 cannot be overdosed, there is no risk. But it's a counter intuitive thought process for most people, isn't it? If you inject alot of something, it's bound to hurt you, isn't it? Like you can have too much morphine, heroin or insulin.

But B12 is a simple vitamin!!! It is a natural part of the body. And people ingest vitamins EVERY DAY from their food. So all you are doing is boosting your B12 intake since you had a deficiency.

If someone could study the impact of vitamins and minerals on the body I think the world would be a far better place. But it's the great unknown, isn't it? Only really discovered in the 19th Century when sailors got scurvy from not enough Vitamin C.

But also, no-one seems to know that B12 absorption is a very complex process that can go wrong. And is different from other vitamins. It's just not talked about.

Don't let others ignorance be your issue. Just keep doing what you're doing and keep your business to yourself.

Hi Purplegirl2,

I am sorry to read. I have found there are two very different approaches depending on which side of the ‘medical field’ you go. I see chiropractors who have to manipulate my neck, spine, pelvis and feet so I can walk. Their approach is ‘whack it in’. I know a reflexologist, her approach is, if you need it, inject at your frequency. I see a private osteopath, they also know it is individual care.

Whilst many of us have had to fight to have more than 2 to 3 monthly injections from ‘the real medical people’.

I don’t disclose my frequency (apart from here and a couple of people). I certainly don’t tell people when I’ve pigged out on a huge bag of sweets or the ridiculous amount of times I have to use the toilet. It’s my own personal issues.

Health issues include dignity, privacy and respect.

x
