Did anyone had long lasting effects from an EMG/NCS?

Mine was absolutely awfull. Electrical shocks felt like I was getting electrocuted.

I’m on the small side 52 kg ( 114 pounds) and 1m59 (5,2 feet) and my guess is that the doctor used too high of a voltage.

The doctor had problems with the machine and was very frustrated and in a bad mood.

He kept zapping me in each point 10 times really hard.

The needle was thick / long and the doctor pushed it in really hard and deep. He was constantly stirring it when it was in my muscle.

I have been through alot in my life. But this test was a really traumatic experience.

Before I got the tests my symptoms where all gone in hands and feet. I actually went for tingling in the left side of my face. But since they couldn’t test that, they decided to test my left leg and arm.

After the tests everything is 100x than before. Pins and needles in legs, feet, arms and hands even in places I never had them before.

I feel like the electrical shocks did the most damage. All the spots where these were applied to hurt really bad. (Left knee (back), inside of the elbow, my wrist and my foot)

Sounds horrendous!

Can you get more B12 jabs to help heal the nerve damage?

I'd suggest increasing the amount of foods that are good sources of potassium and magnesium in your diet if you can too - nuts, fruit, especially bananas, and red meat for example.

Tests like that are bad enough when they go smoothly and are conducted in a kind and sympathetic way, and easy, painless tests can be unpleasant when carried out by the wrong person so be aware of the shock (as well as literal!) to your whole system by this traumatic experience and give yourself plenty of mental, as well as physical, healing time - being conscious that the two are closely dependent.

The good thing is that the nerves will heal as time goes on with enough B12 and supporting supplements. x

Ty so much for your response. I’m already taking high dosed vit B complex. (With low B6 as it can cause nerve issues in higher doses).I can’t be the only one suffering from this side effects after these tests. It just sucks so much. It’s so painful and really limits my daily activities.

I am sorry to hear of your bad experience. I found the tests unpleasant at the time but had no after effects. I hope things improve for you soon.
