Is MMA level going down quickly a good sign?

My doctor did not order a B12 but he did order an MMA. (Methylmalonic acid). My MMA has been as high as 10. (Range 0-5) It was 0 in this test

Am I correct in thinking that this is a good indicator that the shots are working? I didn’t even have loading doses. My lowest recorded serum B12 was 112.

Thanks for any input.

That's what it would suggest to me... I am looking forward to hearing others views.

Thanks Denise. If this is true, I believe I responded so well to injections because my digestive malabsorption was interfering with the oral supplements. I may have to continue with injections at a lower dose/frequency because of the malabsorption (which is eluding treatment so far.

I quite agree. Same with me.

My malabsorption is due to a combination of factors, of which exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, SIBO and slow GI transit have been specifically identified but there are also issues with my liver (wrong texture, probably as a result of a viral infection damaging it 30 years ago) and a genetic disorder of some sort too (lots of my family have vitamin and mineral deficiencies).

I have improved things significantly by taking digestive enzymes with everything I eat and antibiotics for the SIBO. The other things affecting me are less treatable. Just be aware that there are a multitude of things which can cause malabsorption problems, quite a few of which do have treatments available, so don't give up!

Good luck with finding your answers!
