I recently saw a doc who told me my MMA results are low (standard range 87-318). My results were 73. She said this tell her my body’s store of B12 is very high and that I do not need further injections. I am not stopping injections at this time. I still suffer neurological symptoms. I am curious what the low MMA numbers may mean or if that this doc says has any truth to it.
Thanks!

I'm not a medic but I find it surprising that someone could draw the conclusion that low MMA means high B12., however, it certainly would point to B12 at the cell level not being an issue anymore, at least for the process that produces MMA as a side-product.
Thank you for the information. It’s always appreciated!! I did read up on this quite a bit and found tons of info on elevated MMA but no where (even know the links you provided) can I find information on low MMA. Maybe it’s that it’s not of concern? Hmm
Can't say that I've read medical papers specifically addressing your concern of lower MMA levels, but have read a few articles saying that ... "Low MMA has no known health implications." (labs.selfdecode.com/blog/me...
Also notice in the linked article the author states (under Low Methylmalonic Acid) that although rare, a person can still be B12 deficient with low MMA level.
Hello! My doctor ordered the MMA test for me after I had started on weekly injections. My numbers were low, which is what one would expect while receiving injections. I was under the impression that she ordered the test to make sure my body was properly utilizing the b12 being injected. No way did she use the MMA results to reduce frequency of shots but she did do that with a subsequent b12 test that showed my levels over 2,000.
