Ear neuropathy…?

Hi, everyone —

I’ve written here about my experience of peripheral neuropathy in my left big toe as a result of B12 deficiency, which has definitely improved with treatment (although it hasn’t quite vanished).

Today, though, presented something completely new and unexpected: a sharp, stabbing pain in my inner right ear. It comes and goes in waves — sometimes every 20 seconds, sometimes every 120 seconds, and sometimes it disappears for a half hour or so — but it’s been around all day (8 am until now, which is about 10 pm), and its presentation reminds me a LOT of my toe.

Has this happened to anyone else as a result of PA? I’m so ready to be done with new symptoms! I expected that my 1 shot per month for the last 10 months (and this month’s shot just a few days ago) would at least prevent anything new from happening to me.

Of course, if this has nothing to do with PA, I’m not sure whether to be relieved or concerned…in that case, what kind of specialist (ENF? Neuro?) might be best equipped to tell me what’s going on?

Thanks so much for your time!

Sounds like an ear infection could be a possibility so I’d be having my ear looked at by my GP as a starting point.

Right! That would be the logical conclusion — only I don’t have any other symptoms, and it really does remind me of my toe?

I will call my GP, though!

A B12 deficiency only rarely affects cranial nerves (aside from the optic nerve). So it's not likely.

cochlear nerve = tinnitus and facial nerve = Bell's Palsy are both cranial nerves and both conditions frequently experienced with PA - are they not?

I get this when I have hay fever induced congestion of nose and ears. Lots of pollens about in UK at the moment. A strong nose blow seems to clear it.
