Is there a difference in absorption? Does one last longer than the other? Or is it a matter of dosage (larger doses need larger areas of injection).

IM vs SQ
I've not been able to find any experiments that have compared the two. There will be little difference one way or the other.
I have read that hydrocobalamin stays longer than cyancobalamin. I switch to hydro next week. FYI. Cyan worked fine for me. I'm switching only because I have not been getting an adequate supply. I am going to be taking larger dose (2ml instead of 1 ml, because that's what these ampoules hold). I believe that hydro will work fine, and I'll let you know.
2ml indicates the amount of saline used in the ampoule ( millilitres ) , It has nothing to do with strength (amount of B12) .Most ampoules are either 1mg x 1ml or 1mg x 2ml ( same amount of B12 ) except for some Pascoe ampoules which are 1.5 mg x 1 ml .
I have both . Initially IM at the surgery only. Since lockdown May 2020 I do sc at home and about 6 weekly get an IM one by a nurse.
The only difference I've found is it seems to get into the system quicker by IM.
L thought im would last longer but for me this doesn't seem to be the case.
I continue to have both as covering all angles. Alm IM was teally hurtingbmy arms.
I dont always get a good response whether IM or sc .
It certainly gets into your system whatever route
It would make sense IM would last longer initially thought this the case . Not convinced though.
Will stick to the regime at present.
It does say on the German Rotexmedica b12 for sc and IM .
Just replying to Nackapan comment about IM hurting in arm. I ask nurse to do IM in upper buttock which is much better.
