I have been asked to check my folate and iron levels which I will do next week. I am presently on b12 injections will this get my platelet up ?

Your platelet count is fine. You don't say what it has fallen from, however. The first rule of blood tests is 'if it changes, is it true?' Platelets are sticky little beasts and that's why we have them. The most likely cause of any is the sample quality. If the sample isn't taken with a 'clean' venepuncture, with a decent-sized needle [21g or bigger was my favourite] and taken quickly, into a well-anticoagulated sample tube, which is then promptly mixed carefully [but not shaken] then the chance of losing platelets is considerable.
The next most likely fault is the serum potassium. Another good indicator of a 'dodgy quality' sample. Remember the words of Lance Corporal Joe Jones from Dads Army 'Don't panic!' Wait and see what next week's sample shows, and take note of how the sample is taken!
An aside on needle size: Bigger needles don't hurt more than smaller ones. Bigger needles have higher flow rates, and the process therefore takes less time. Each time you go 'up' a size, the flow rate doubles. Just remember. Loose sleeve, press on the site afterwards, and it's unlikely to bruise.
