B12 and acne

So im sure this question has been asked many times before ☺️ Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

I self inject, ideally i need an injection every 3-4 weeks to keep nerve pains, night sweats, hips/shoulder/chest pain at bay. But my issue is ACNE, im 29 year old F and have never had bad skin. My skin will break out all bumpy and with BIG PAINFULL spots on my face neck chest and back 😭 They do go down but it takes about 3 weeks and by then its time for me to inject again.... i have been holding of the injections b3it i know this isn't a good idea with how it makes me feel, i can feel my balance starting to be off now with tinitus.

Its just a vicious circle i dont know if its best to leave it longer then inject or to do less but more often so its not a shock to my system?

Hi, have you had your blood sugar checked? I had trouble with awful skin abscesses and (long story made short) dermatology found I was diabetic. Like you, I never had bad skin until that came along. So, treating diabetes helped massively but also isotrexin to deal with abscesses. You’ll need a prescription via dermatologist I think. Tablets were awful as affected whole body, the gel was far better. Good luck x

Thankyou, i did have my blood sugar checked at the begining of the year. I cant remember whay it was though i shall have a look 😁 all i know it GP said all normal. But that included my b12 which was very low 'normal' @192

Even if you’re not diabetic the isotrexin will help with the acne x

Not heard of that.

Yes abscesses are a symptom of undiagnosed diabetes . Never made the link but could be low b12 too.

I had some before b12 deficiency found fir about 3 years all told on and of.

My blood sugars fine . So not always. ??

I would continue to have the I jectiins tiu need. I also had a very clear skin . Never had acne or problems wcen through puberty.

I had awful spots at the beginning mostly on face scale hairline and neck and back.

It was the least of my problems at the time. They rarely happen now . I'm 21 months in .

I had a couple recently as upped my injections. Also some random dry patches on my arms and legs?

Just keep them dry and dont try and squeeze them. They are sore. Take ages to go . Concentrate on feeling well.

Thars the mist important thing is tk function. I'm sure it will improve.

I use a face wash but moisturise around them. Absorb various other creams just to stop me touching them.

All very good advice 😊 isotrexin is vitamin a concentrated. another natural remedy is Ribwort, got anti inflammatory, anti fungal and anti microbial properties. Grows everywhere. It’s a great all rounder as can be eaten as well as applied to skin. (Fybogel is made from seed husks of this plant) I make it into a cream I use on face and body. This is only coz I started being allergic to everything shop bought. It takes longer but does reduce spots. I chop it and infuse into warm coconut oil , Shea butter and sweet almond oil for about 8 hours (in slow cooker). Once cooled before it’s gone solid I add lavender, tea tree and rose geranium essential oils. Sorry I don’t measure so can’t tell you quantities but it’s a lovely cream and helped my friends mums (90+) foot heal from very bad ulcer. Coconut oil is also antifungal. Also creating things is good for your soul 😊

Thanks i have the coconut oil and essential oils already.

Heard of fibrogel. So ribwort . Where do tou source that ?

It grows all over the place, if you look on google images you’ll recognise it. Also called plantago majora / plantago lanceolota , both can be used, I like broad leaf one better but really not much difference in effect. It even grows between the paving stones outside my house. I get it from the coast where there is no traffic so no lead content from fumes. Mid July to late August it’s at its biggest, dies off over winter. Happy Ribwort hunting 😊

P.S. I think any oils will be ok, I like the combination I use but even coconut oil on its own would be fine I think 😊 I only use a little sweet almond so it’s a softer consistency but still sets as a cream. Keep stirring every 15 min or so whilst it’s setting

Acne is normally a short-term problem when B12 treatment first starts.

It sounds as if you are getting a lot of this 'first time' acne.

I would try injecting every two weeks to see if the bacteria causing the acne get used to it. I would also visit a pharmacy and ask for the best stuff they have to treat the acne. No need to mention the B12 connection - they may not know about it and might classify you as 'one of them'.

Always labled 'one of those' lol thank you. I will give this a go 😁

Hey, I had the same issue after my loading doses of vitamin B12 almost 5 years ago. I went from clear skin to awful break outs straight away and nothing helped (tried every lotion / cream / antibiotic / dianette). It also made my skin extremely oily but not only that, on my chest and back, it was like some of the oil would crystallise inside my pores leaving my skin with a rough texture that I would constantly pick to get the little crystals out (they weren’t blackheads). Anyway, I am now on roaccutane and what a god send it is. Oil has gone, skin almost completely clear - I just hope it lasts. Dermatologist said I’d be surprised how many vitamin B12 deficient patients she treats for acne. Good luck, hope you get it sorted!

Same here, had awful spots and lumps for a few months then it suddenly disappeared and skin actually better than before now. I’m over 12 months in on SI. Was weekly, now 3 weekly.

Hi, how long did it take for the pimples to disappear for you?

Lurcher-lady profile image

They would come after injections and take a couple of weeks to go, then after 3-4 months they just stopped. I have no reaction now on 3-4 weekly jabs.

Hi Zc66, I don’t know how I forgot a really important and relevant element about acne, maybe coz it’s so long ago... initially when I got really bad with it, way before diabetes was discovered and PA, in desperation I went to a homeopath. She said my body was shedding toxins through my skin. I detoxed my liver and kidneys under her supervision, but the boils carbuncles and abscesses kept coming. She was flummoxed and said toxins were still coming from somewhere. Roll on a few months and my appendix nearly killed me, it had apparently been seeping for months, possibly years, and had developed gangrene. After they removed it and washed out my insides (the seepage was everywhere) I developed a pelvic abscess. I was septic and on all manner of IV and oral antibiotics, then another 2 months of heavy duty antibiotics after discharge from hospital. My skin completely cleared, but then the spots etc came back gradually. Then the diabetes was eventually discovered and I’ve told you the rest.

I suppose my point is, please pay attention to all of your symptoms, and keep asking about them to the medical professionals. I’d learned to ignore all the pain I was in, and to discount it as irrelevant. I thought I was just being a ‘big baby’. I thought I should ‘just get on with it’ regarding all my symptoms.

All of your symptoms are important and relevant. Some connect to others without it being clear that they do. Pursue answers even if people appear to find you a nuisance and want to dismiss you.

I don’t think your appendix is likely to be doing the same, just sometimes causes are really obscure. I got a bit paranoid about any tummy pain after that experience (generally trapped wind 😂), and learned to put my mind at rest regarding further pelvic abscesses by just taking my temperature. If there’s any infection, temperature will be raised.

Good luck x

You might try supplementing with zinc, it has made a major difference in acne for me. Zinc is known to be needed for nutrient absorption, and my unprofessional theory is that when replenishing something deficient it can use up your zinc stores causing the levels to drop. It is also recommended to take copper as zinc competes with copper for absorption and you can become copper deficient when taking zinc. They make combo vitamins under several brands like "zinc balance" that include both. Look for picolinate or gluconate forms for best quality. I personally feel better taking magnesium (as glycinate or other quality type) and B6 (as P-5-P) along with the zinc, much like with a ZMA supplement, but taking them separately I can control ratios and forms. I split my dosages between morning and bed time. YMMV and best of luck!
