Can anyone advise me please as to if they think I need hydroxycobalamin injections or oral supplement please? I have a lot of symptoms and have been off work ill since December. I've attached my recent blood tests. I'm getting nowhere with my gp...I have tinnitus, shortness of breath, fatigue, bowel problems, pleuritic aches, raynauds, all developed since December.

Blood tests advice please
I would try oral B12 for a few months to see if they help with the symptoms and B12 levels.

Have you at least been tested for PA and Coeliac disease?

What's your diet like?
Do you eat plenty of b12 rich food eg meat, fish, eggs, dairy, foods fortified with b12?
If yes to B12 rich food then dietary B12 deficiency is unlikely and it's more likely that any B12 deficiency symptoms are due to absorption problems in the gut.

I wrote very detailed replies on another forum thread with more info eg tests for PA, list of B12 books, list of B12 websites, more UK B12 documents, letters to GP about B12 deficiency and other B12 info including hints on dealing with unhelpful GPs, which you might find helpful.

If you're in UK, be aware that the pandemic is impacting patients B12 treatment.
I left a detailed reply about impact of pandemic on B12 treatment in UK in next link.

Thankyou very much for all of this information. I've just bought some Floradix to get me started. I've struggled to find the UK advice on what's deemed as low. My results printout states that I have insufficient levels but I can't find anything anywhere that supports this.
Hi,
I suggest you search online for reference ranges for B12 blood tests in your part of UK.
Your B12 results are using pmol/L. Sometimes ref ranges use ng/L.
If you suspect you have B12 deficiency but your diet is B12 rich then be aware that supplementing may make it more difficult to get a confirmed diagnosis.

Have MMA tested! Methylmalonic acid. With low to low normal b12 which you have, if MMA is high you might need injections. I did. I had awful symptoms. Couldn’t balance or walk a straight line, pins and needles in fingers and toes, thigh and calf pain. After loading doses of b12 my symptoms improved a ton!
