Specific food cravings?

Does anyone have cravings for very specific foods or tastes since having PA? When I was much younger, I had a bad case of Graves Disease and craved salt, for the iodine content obviously. Lately, I have have had unusual cravings for eggs and grits. For my UK friends, grits are a mostly southern USA food made from coarsely ground corn and boiled in water and salt, then served with butter, salt & pepper. I put two sunny-side up eggs on top. This has gotten to be routine for breakfast or lunch several times a week now. Unusual, especially since I am rarely actually hungry anymore. I have also been having strong urges to drink cola. Again, strange for me since I have not been a cola drinker for many years.

Whew! What a strange path I am traveling since PA. But I am seeing a rheumatologist next week to see what he thinks of all this mess.

There is usually is a reason for a craving . Tih cen leaf as many eggs and grits as tiy like as sounds very healthy. As eggs are so nutritious. As for the cola coukd this be due tj digestion thirst or energy levels?? One of my children had this craving before diagnosis . I'd try and stay off that!

Thanks Nackapan. When I get the cola cravings, I try to mix an ounce or two of bourbon in it. Probably doesn't help anything except make me a little happier! :-)

Maybe soda for caffeine if you have fatigue.

I just want chocolate for comfort (and probably caffeine).

I try to avoid the soda since I am diabetic, but it's almost like my body is commanding me to head out to the fridge and grab one. I should try chocolate, it's probably relatively better for me than cola.

Cravings oh I miss getting those, I’ve had no appetite for so long and all food tastes like cardboard it’s become a chore to eat. Milkshakes and smoothies mainly my diet as it’s easier to drink then eat. It’s like ur stomach gets hungry but ur mouth doesn’t

Exactly! My stomach rumbles, but eating is the last thing I want to do. With my hemorrhagic atropic gastrititis, the less I eat, the less I suffer from the pain and other symptoms. But my brain is telling me to eat these things.

Most cravings come from a lack of nutrients in the body.

Example of chocolate would be magnesium.

So if you are not eating a balanced diet then the body is going to crave a food to signal what it needs.

The cola is a really bad source of energy and the sugar craving is a strong indicator you are lacking vitamins, minerals and probably dehydrated.

To much sugar in any form from fruit to cola is really not good.

Laod up on veggies and maybe veggie smoothies.

Hope this helps

Thanks Seren1932 - I read that my desire for eggs could point to a need for protein and sulfur. While I am not a meat eater, I do eat plenty of seafood and veggies and feel that I am following a "relatively" healthy diet with plenty of nutrients, but these cravings might be telling me otherwise. And except for the cola (with the bourbon), it is not too bad for me.

I also get cravings for crunchy Cheetos, but I am a medical marijuana patient, and that craving has been with me for almost fifty years! :-)

I realise this is a rather old post but I also suffered from graves !

I craved butter or margarine ( maybe the salt content ) but I could eat it by the spoonful. What a strange lot we are.

With regard to fizzy drinks. In my case not cola but but fizzy tropical crush. Rather than drink glasses of the stuff I tip a small amount in with my squash just to give a little bit of a sparkle.

I love the hat your wearing inth photo.
