Has anyone heard/tried lithium to help absorb b12 please?

Hi

I've recently came across some nutritionists/functional doctors on the internet suggesting that lithium can help transport b12 into cells, has anyone got any views of this please? I'd not come across this idea before...

I checked a recent hair analysis result and I have no lithium level, so wondering if it may be an advantage to raise this level?

Many thanks.

There is no evidence to support this.

Having no lithium is normal. It has no known natural biological function. webelements.com/lithium/bio...

Dont be so quick to abandon the idea, just because there are no studies done on it doesn't make it false.

When I took lithium orotate I regained my color vision, and had a profoundly anti depressive effect similar to taking copper b12 and folate. I think lithium must act somewhere around the methionine synthetase enzyme. And does so very potently, I only took 5mg to have this effect.

just to add that I would caution against taking lithium unless under medical supervision.

I've read this too. It's a different form of lithium than is given out by doctors and much smaller dose.

We don't know what's in our water at any one time do we?

I wouldn't do it off my own back ...

Instead I've bought some pistachios to try lol

I'm going to ask my functional doc in Jan when I see her

Lithium is lithium. You might take lithium chloride, or lithium carbonate, or lithium citrate, or lithium acetate - as soon as it gets into your stomach they will all form lithium ions (Li+).

Yes, for some people it makes a difference

For example freddd reported that he was able to substantially reduce his intake of mb12 after years of crazy high doses.

"For the last 18 months I have been titrating Lithium Orotate (from 240 mcg to 960 mcg of Li). I can no longer produce the results I posted the other day. Homeostasis has been restored in my body. I have tapered the MeCbl injections from 30mg a day as 3x10mg to 5 mg A WEEK. All of the hot and cold running bottleneck deficiencies that changed every time I added or subtracted something has disappeared. My potassium daily down from 5000 mg to 1500 mg. Besides building TCR-Li and getting b12 into my nervous systems, it also strips the ligand providing COB[II] and stores B12 for me at least a week rather than 8 hours I used to get. All sorts of things have become more steady, instead of the rough and fast refeeding syndrome I and many others have been suffering from when I took vitamins. This is my first post saying this."

Not read about that, though taking lithium may cause unwelcome hypothyroid issues.

This is very interesting. My doctor just found the pernicious anemia and I had neuropsychiatric symptoms from it. Was put on lithium before we knew it was pernicious anemia and now I know why the lithium worked to alleviate psychiatric symptoms. So exhausted by all this. Any information on how lithium helps absorb b12 is very appreciated!
