How do you know they aren't working? How much zinc are you taking? Too much zinc can lead to a copper deficiency. Most people should get enough zinc in their diet if they eat sensibly. Vegetarians are more at risk of being deficient, as many plant-based foods with a lot of zunc also contain chemicals that hinder its absorption.
You shouldn't be taking more than 25 mg of Zn a day unless your doctor tells you to do so.
The only real connection between B12 and zinc is that they are both required in the reaction to convert homocysteine to methionine.
Michele_Lettersten How do you know you have low zinc? Is this something you have been tested for? Sometimes vegetarians are low in zinc. However be aware that too much zinc can significantly deplete copper.
Zinc helps B12 to lower homocysteine. I personally have found zinc useful but my metabolism is rather quirky and yours is unlikely to be the same!
I haven't been tested but I suspect I may be a bit low on zinc as immune system not great.
I have been taking 15 mg of zinc combined with copper and vit C each day. Don't know if it's working or not ... I tend to crunch the tablet a little bit in my mouth as my gut does not absorb well (coeliac etc).
