I’m getting acne type symptoms on my scalp a few days after an injection. Does anyone know if it’s just injections that do this, or does the sublingual spray have the same effect?

It's not at all uncommon to have acne when first treated for a B12 deficiency. It will be the injections as they got about 100 times the amount of B12 into the body compared to oral B12.

The good news is that it's normally temporary. See a pharmacist for advice.

I've only had the b12 spots after injections. Alot fewer now but around my hairline and on my neck do continue.

I get this as a result of the injections. When my levels dropped again before I upped my injection frequency I realised the spots had stopped. So I like them being there as I know the B12 is soaking in!

my favourite theory is that the acne is due to reaction of micro-organisms on your skin to higher levels of B12 which results in them excreting a toxin that the skin reacts to. After you have been B12 deficient the immune system can be a bit hyperactive and reacts more to irritants like these. As fbirder says, for most people it calms down and a pharmacist may be able to suggest a suitable wash to help until the problem calms down.

Thanks all, I was just wondering if trying the spray for a while instead of injections would make a difference. Thanks 😉

Acne can sometimes be the excess homocysteine being excreted from your body as the b12 balances up the levels. It’s a good sign but usually stops when the homocysteine level returns to normal. X

That’s something to look forward too. They never checked homocysteine levels, so I’m just assuming they’re dropping. B12 and folate increased significantly. Thanks 5576

Quick update.....this past week have added a few drops of teatree oil to my shampoo, left on scalp for a couple of minutes while showering before rinsing and Voila! No more spots. Happy days 😊
