Hi everyone, I hear & read that pernicious anaemia means low stomach acid, do we still! get acid indigestion /heartburn type of symptoms, (I'm now due for my fourth 12weekly B12 injection), thank you for any advice.
Acid!: Hi everyone, I hear & read that... - Pernicious Anaemi...
Acid!
Yes, the symptoms of no stomach acid (achlorhydria) are very similar to those of high stomach acid. healthline.com/health/achlo...
The problem is that many doctors are not aware of this, and say that you can’t test for achlorhydria. It is true that it is not easy to test it.
There is a simple test you can try using baking powder - loveleafco.com/blog/baking-...
Hi fbirder, thank you for your reply, it made interesting reading re the links you sent,
Again thank you.
I am pretty sure this is what I have. Have had PA for over 10 years but only had stomach problems in last 6 months or so. Feels like acid stomach but antacids don't help at all. Very miserable with it. I have read a thing that suggests drinking a teaspoon of apple (cider?) vinegar in water before meals. It explains why I always want to put vinegar and brown sauce on everything. Very miserable today with painful stomach and it's keeping me awake at night. Just rang doctor as still want it checked out but told no appointments for a month!!!
Many people here swear by apple cider vinegar. I prefer lime juice, about 30 mL in a glass of something (water, tonic, orange juice, gimlet, margarita) that I drink during the second half of a meal.
Hi, no appointments for a month seems to be happening in most surgeries, not a good situation at all,
My son (to our knowledge doesn't have PA ) takes a spoonful of apple cider vinegar in water most days, but he tells me it has to be 'of the mother' kind , hope you manage to get an appointment sooner than a month , crazy when your unwell.
