As you are a member of PAS , you maybe can get help from the Society, who could speak to your GP . Phone number etc is online . Failing that , are you prepared to self-inject vitamin B12 , as many people on this forum have to do? If you buy in bulk, an injection need only cost about £1.10 .You can get all the information you need to know on this forum .

I actually fell like I’m not gonna make it to christmas I’ve had this Pernicious Anemia & other illnesses untreated for nearly 5 yrs……. i can hardly keep my eyes open , everything is soooooo hard i feel heavy like I’m made of lead. I’ve had oesophagus for 16yrs and been on lansoprazole ever since :(

Thank you for replying

Taking Lansoprazole for 16 years will have caused you health problems . It is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (P.P.I.) , which will neutralise your stomach acid . Stomach acid is necessary for the break-down and absorption of vitamins and minerals in the food we eat . Vitamin B12 is the most difficult of vitamins to absorb . If you cannot come off Lansoprazole , then injections are the way to obtain B12 , by-passing your stomach .

Your GP should know the dangers of taking a P.P.I. for such a long period of time . A multi-vitamin and mineral tablet would also be good .

I agree with wedgewood Get in touch with PAS to contact your gp surgery on your behalf & in the meantime, try & get a b12 injection from somewhere ASAP. It might have to be a local beauty clinic. If I hadn’t sourced an injection when I did, I dread to think how I’d have ended up. It’s Friday so ring around now. Good luck & keep in touch here so you don’t feel so alone with it. xx

Lacking certain nutrients ( probably caused by , in your case , taking Lansoprazole for 16 years ) will have affected your Immune System . You are then more liable to catch any “bugs” that are flying around .

You don’t need to tell me that, i hardly go out and last year i had 5 chest infections & pneumonia twice x

Are you able to at least make the phone calls to find out what you can do when you are able to go out?

Why aren't they treating you? If you have PA you should be having injections. It's terrible when they won't listen or don't have the time

Queeniz profile image

Terrible not the word….. I’m so poorly I’m blacking out at least twice a day i wake up on the floor most of the time & i don’t need it with osteoporosis as well id rather die to be honest x

Book a double appointment. Take some one with you. Break it down. Say How will you treat me? What tests do I need. This 10 min consult is si counter productive . See another doctor. Make a list . 5 things that bother you most I know how difficult it is. I lady went in June and booked on advance for next week as still far from well. Hope the next appointment goes better

I wrote 4 pages of symptoms how long I’ve had them, how they’ve got worse over the yr, the tests I need , who I need to be referred to at hospital .... and still nothing !! I’ve lost the Will honest x

Hi I have just read your story, I should have last time. Are you still Anorexic? Is anyone helping you with that condition? You will be getting no vitamins with having that and having PA you poor thing no wonder you are passing out. Do you have anyone close to you who can support you and go with you to the doctors? Request a longer appointment so they have more time to listen. You really need to be treated with injections asap. I remember before I was diagnosed I could hardly get out of bed I thought I was dying it took so long to diagnose the PA and H Pylori so I was always at the doctors which is probably when they first put hypochondriac on my records! No they just look at me ' what's wrong with her this time' Not my fault they couldn't get the diagnosis right. You need to go back and tell them you want treatment. Best wishes to you x

Go to a and e. See another doctor to start afresh. Are under a mental health team to help you through this? Go with someone you trust .

As you have Pernicious Anaemia, your doctors are legally obliged to treat you with Vitamin B12 injections . As you have been taking a Proton Pump Inhibitor (Lansoprazole ) for 16 years , your lack of stomach acid will have depleted your ability to absorb other vitamins and nutrients . PPIs are only intended for short - term use .

I strongly advise you to get in touch with the Pernicious Anaemia Society . You are a member and they will try to help you . They can tackle your doctor , and get you some help . PHONE NUMBER — 01656 769717 .on Tuesdays , Wednesdays ,Thursdays and Saturdays from 8am— 12 noon. .

They have helped many many people to get treatment . Do tell them about the Lansoprazole that you have taken for 16 years .

Very best wishes .
