Medical Id

I was just curious if anyone wears a medical ID for their PA? I happened to come across and article a while back that suggests it due to it being a blood disorder.

That's a good point, I'm in the UK and I think If I was taken to hospital, they would be able to access my medical files, perhaps If I was abroad then a med/bracelet would be wise, also I would because of my epilepsy

I will ask the nurse when go for my next B12 jab, she is more helpful than the receptionists

I am in the US and just ordered one online! I’d rather be safe then sorry. Although not many Dr’s here know anything about it! Quite irritating actually.

May I ask where you found them? I'm in the US, as well, and agree about the overwhelming lack of knowledge by the medical professionals here. Very frustrating!

It’s called Lauren’s Hope. They are more like jewelry. I can’t get over the lack of knowledge, it’s actually quite scary. I don’t know half of what I need to, but it certainly seems more then what some of my Dr.’s know!

the most obvious reason for a medical ID would be to ensure that nitrous oxide isn't used as an anaesthetic should anything happen.

Why? Never read anything about nitrous oxide being contraindicated with PA.

Oh yes, it drastically lowers b-12 levels. It’s a big no no!

it doesn't actually lower levels it just oxidises the B12 to a form where your body can't use it

Yes I’ve read it deactivates all the B12 in your body so your body is unable to use it.

My mother broke her ankle and they gave her plenty of Nitrous oxide and she was like ooooooooh......aaaahhhhh.... oooooh......I am floating. But after her op for her ankle she felt very weak and doctors didn’t consider she’s on B12 injections, took 2-3 months to regain her strength from a very nutritious diet high in meat, poultry, fish, fruit, veg nuts etc

All she really needed was probably the 6 loading doses to help regain her strength so Nitrous Oxide is a big no no even if it makes you feel ooooooooooh.

Thank you. Just a month post dx of PA, lots to learn and USA doctors are clueless

I am in the US and trust me, I know! It’s been a long process for me and I still don’t feel well. I did for a short period of time, but now I am off again.

I hope you got your Folate, Ferritin and Vitamin D levels checked as as Folate and Ferritin work together with B12 and Vitamin D helps with fatigue and few other similar symptoms to low B12.

Use Raw organic honey, Figs, Dates and Black seed oil in your diet daily. They are best of nutrition, you can google each one and they help a lot with any form of Anemia and are very good for fatigue also.

I've been looking into Lauren's Hope too! And good lord I didn't know about nitrous oxide! Thanks for the heads up.

I just added “no nitrous oxide” to it. I didn’t list it as an allergy

Hi Nanc72,

I would say that it’s a very good idea to wear medical ID. I do myself.
