Neurologist referral.

Hello you lovely lot.

Had dr's appointment today as if you saw my last post, my nurse at last 3 monthly B12 injection wanted me to see a Haemotologist after I told her of my symptoms.

Anyway, as you probably know from all my waffling on on here, that I have DDD in 5 discs in my back, discs L2-3-5 & S1. & also disc wear in my neck due to years of manual work & an injury,

I had a recent MRI through pain clinic as my back is getting much worse. The Nurse specialist at Pain Clinic rang with results & said I have 2 types of degeneration but not much difference from MRI I had back in 2011.

I asked her if an MRI showed up nerve damage & she said it wouldn't, which I thought really strange???

As my back has got much worse my neck is now worse & I keep getting like a locking at the back of my neck & what I can only describe as an electric shock once I can move it again.

I put all the pain in my back, legs & sciatica down to DDD, but am thinking now that the PA & B12 deficiency have over the years of not being diagnosed, all added to it.

My question is, when I do see the Neurologist, will they be able to confirm this & look into what's going on?

Thank you as always!

Ritchie

They will be able to run nerve conduction studies to see if any of the peripheral nerves aren't functioning properly. They could also ask for an MRI to specifically look at nerve damage in the spinal cord.

You can skip this bit...

There are several articles on the web about MRI in cases of SACD (Subacute Combined Degeneration of the cord) like this - radiopaedia.org/articles/su... But they all tend to be packed with jargon.

What I can determine is that they use a specific type of MRI called T2-Weighted Imaging - radiopaedia.org/articles/t2... I used to do some NMR so I understand a bit of that side of it. But it's very complicated and I'm not sure I could explain it in less than a few thousand words (it involves quantum mechanics).

Thank you Dawn45

I'm so sorry you've been affected badly by this.

I had to give up working for the company I worked 26yrs for as it involved loads of driving towards the end & I just couldn't carry on due to the pain in my back.

Hope things improve for you!
