so, my GP says B12 is fine, but as I understand it this still may not be the case? I would like to try taking more B12 from other sources but am confused as to the wide array of different types of B12 out there? Any help/tips/advice? Thanks so much for reading and it would be great if you could shed some light on this confusing situation for me!

Thanks all

So have you symptoms of low b12? Did you have the B12 serum blood test? There are B12 tablets supplements mostly in high doses as you can't absorb much. B13 sprays sublingual and b12 injections Im and of course diet if you csn absetback well. Liver red meats have the most . Marmite seaweed and the list goes on. It is stored on your liver and can contain 3-5 years worth.

Do you have symptoms of B12 deficiency ? You can look them up . Have you reason to think that your diet may lead to B12 deficiency — i.e. a vegan, or strict vegetarian diet? Normally , as long as you have no absorption problems e.g. Pernicious Anaemia, a modest intake of meat , fish , dairy products and eggs ,will keep you supplied with B12 . If you are not consuming enough / any of the above , a supplement of a b12 oral tablet should suffice . They are usually in the Cynocobalamin form . This form is also used when breakfast cereals are fortified . There are also tablets in the Methylcobalamin form . Some people think that this is a superior form . But for the vast majority , the Cynocobalamin form is fine.

If you have absorbtion problems e.g. Pernicious Anaemia , the situation is different. Then you can only benefit from injections of B12 . The first cobalamin to be developed for this purpose was Cynocobalamin, and it has saved countless lives .Later Hydroxocobalamin was made , which apparently stays in the body for longer .This is the form used in the NHS in the U.K. now. Fairly recently , a new form called Methylcobalamin has been developed . I have tried this , and for me , it was no better than Hydroxocobalamin. But some people think that it is a superior form . It is much more expensive and more unstable . Methylcobalamin injections are not licensed in the U.K. for medical purposes . They are often used in some so-called health and beauty clinics where they can be obtained at great expense .It is alleged that they can help with weight loss !

I don’t know if the above has helped you . There are people on this forum who can give you a much better response than me . Best wishes . 👍
