Does anyone know if low iron causes high cholesterol? My cholesterol is very high after taking 40 mgs of statins a day. Just found out my iron is low. I have googled a few things about it but haven't found out much.

Low iron high cholesterol
I can't think of any reason why iron might affect cholesterol.
this article suggest a possible link between iron and cholesterol - though it is actually in relation to high levels of iron. I haven't read the article in detail
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
there is also this article on iron and lipids ... and there is a link between cholesterol and lipids so that could be the link.
There is a link between low thyroid hormones and raised cholesterol. Before Thyroid testing - people with raised cholesterol had their thyroids treated. 😊
Good iron levels are needed to aid in the conversion of T4 the thyroid produces -
into the Active hormone T3. It is the low in range T3 that causes the problem as T3 drives the metabolism and is needed in every cell of the body. The adrenals are your gear box and the thyroid is the accelorator !
T3 is rarely tested in the NHS and so many thousands of sufferers are missed. It would be good to rule out a thyroid issue with the CORRECT testing.
There is a Cholesterol Support Forum here on HU and there's a new post from SOS007 with loads of spot on info about diet and lifestyle ..
I would also test VitD ...
