Hi. I have been diagnosed with pernicious anaemia in February 2018. I receive injection every 3 months, although i feel i need them monthly.
Just tested my Intrinsic Factor and the results are 38.5 , and normal is <6
can't seem to find anything online about what these results, so if anyone knows anything, i will be so grateful.
Many thanks, Alina

Hi,
Are you in UK? I'm asking because B12 treatment varies between countries.
Recommended UK B12 treatment for b12 deficiency without neuro symptoms is ....
6 B12 loading jabs over 2 weeks followed by a jab every 2 or 3 months.
Recommended UK B12 treatment for b12 deficiency WITH neuro symptoms is .....
A B12 loading jab every other day for as long as symptoms continue to get better (could mean weeks even months) then a jab every 2 months.

Your high IF means that you definitely have PA. Treatment will not affect that.

I was wondering if a very low IFA figure means that PA can be ruled out? I have seen many times on this site that the IFA test is unreliable and often gives false negative results. But does a low figure mean that it is more likely to be a real negative, so to speak? My IFA result was 2 [0-7 normal; 7-10 equivocal; greater than 10 positive].

No, a low IFA test doesn’t mean anything. It cannot be used to rule out PA. Otherwise the chair of the PAS wouldn’t have it.
