Still trying to get a diagnosis

Lots of info mentions numbness and tingling but I have recently developed sharper pains like a single needle jab rather than tingling. Have others experienced this as part of PA?

Hi Numbsew

Yes I have had these sharp pains , all over my limbs and chest.along with many more symptoms and v. strong familial involvement. GP said B12 probs. But has been v. slow to give me treatment , as has no knowledge of NICE guidelines. I provided printouts of relevant advice, but not enough nurses to provide injections, no more employed as cost too high!

Perhaps self-injection ? It’s so simple, quick and convenient , once you get over the fear . No harm can come to you through overdosing .it is also very cheap . I buy in bulk —100 of everything at a time , so an injection costs not much more than £1.00

Thankyou wedgewood.

This might be the way to go.

I certainly had numbness(in feet , greatly relieved ,turning to burning after sufficient B12 injections) B12 deficiency has a myriad of symptoms, and everyone’s are slightly different . My hearing was affected , but has not deteriorated further .Your symptoms sound very much like B12 deficiency .Any nerves can be affected , because the myelin sheath around the nerves is made with B12 , and as it wears thinner and thinner from lack of B12 , the symptoms worsen . So you see , B12 deficiency can cause problems all over the body , but you just get a pick and mix medley, which can be quite different to anyone else’s . Some symptoms that we all have in common seem to be the debilitating exhaustion , the foggy brain , confusion and anxiety . But there are many many more . You need folic acid supplementation to work with the B12 . Have you had a diagnosis of PA?

No, my b12 serum levels are too high. (319). I saw the GP today and listed my many symptoms and my family history. He went away to discuss my case with his pArtner and came back to say that they felt they wanted to get the advice of the haematologist before they make a decision. They think that my symptoms are probably menopause related because I am 49.

It is possible to have normal B12 serum levels and have PA . It has a certain name . I can’t think of it now . If you read the pinned posts you will find that information .

Yes I get this but it's less if I make sure I inject regularly enough.

Yep I initially I was diagnosed with PN, all seem to have the same issue, similar to PA, random pains, and they come in different guises, some days shooting pains, other just a constant burning, pins and needles, muscle twitching, and even terrible headaches, so the list is endless, it's a must you get on top of the problems, the injections definitely help, and hopefully your gp will get things moving for you,the condition is really difficult to keep an eye on, as I feel after having my injection just over a month ago I'm in need of a top up, as I've started feeling "weak" and now started with skull busting headaches, and numerous muscle spasms, and yet feel guilty in having to get back down to the doctors after such a short time, so I wish you a good result and persevere in getting some treatment, thank you

Another thing I have is tendinitis. Is this B12related? It is not on the website symptom list.
