I have recently posted about me B12, I had 2 print outs off my bloods, this one stated low cholesterol. And second sheet printed my b12 low which I’m now having injections for.
My question is .... can b12 effect my cholesterol? Doctor didn’t tell me it was low it’s only because I had a print out at reception. Is this anything for me to be worried about?
Thanks in advance

My cholesterol has been a bit too high for years, then I had it tested about a year after starting B12 injections and it's nicely into the normal range now. I've not made any changes to my diet; B12 is the only change.
Hi Hayleyjel. HDL is know as the 'good' cholesterol...here's a brief extract from Webmed:
HDL cholesterol is the well-behaved "good cholesterol." This friendly scavenger cruises the bloodstream. As it does, it removes harmful bad cholesterol from where it doesn't belong. High HDL levels reduce the risk for heart disease -- but low levels increase the risk.
At 1.2mmol/L your result is sitting at the bottom of the range, so perhaps could do with raising a little, and this can be done by making changes to your diet. (Plenty of information on the internet about this).
Not something I know much about but think it's important to a) get the balance between 'good' and 'bad' cholesterol 'right'...whilst of course ensuring that cholesterol levels do not get too high. So, tricky. And hopefully someone with more knowledge that me will leave further responses for you.
Your GP should be able to advise about this and also perhaps repeat your cholesterol levels in a couple of months to check and see how things are going.
But the cholesterol is the exact same cholesterol whether carried on HDL or on LDL.
Completely agree with you that it is "known as" but that itself is a very questionable naming. Suggest a wander round drmalcolmkendrick.org/ could be of interest. Even if you end up disagreeing with him overall, he does put forward a lot of questions - and answers many of them.
Thanks for the link helvella . Read a short section ('why saturated fat cannot raise cholesterol levels (LDL Levels')...and find those arguments convincing...will delve into the rest tomorrow.
Also note the comments by editors of the BMJ and Lancet on the current state (rather than status 😳) of clinical research...so hmm...deeply concerning. If we have to deconstruct received scientific knowledge...and perhaps we do / should - then quite frankly, I'm s*****d 🤭😖. But that's another story...and more reading...
Also had a quick glance at what Dr Mercola says about the cholesterol myth...proper read tomorrow...throws up interesting ideas about the role of raised CRP - so more reading, I guess 🤔. And oh dear about my raised CRP....
Hayleyjel ....here's something about cholesterol, by Dr Mercola, that you might find interesting...though I have haven't read it in full / digested it...and don't know enough about cholesterol (yet) to make any comments about it (the article or cholesterol 😉).
First off thank you both so much for all that information, I will get my research game on lol :), was just concerned as the doctor didn’t even tell me it’s only because I had the print out I seen it, hopefully I will find a way to increase it slightly without hiring it much and also find out why mine would be on the barrier at such a young age.
Hi Hayleyjel. Please don't go and consume lots of so called 'good’ cholesterol in attempt to raise your HDL levels. Whilst the body certainly needs cholesterol to function properly, a too high total cholesterol level can be damaging...so not a good idea to do anything that may contribute to increasing the total cholesterol level.
Your GP may not have talked to you about this because they're happy with your full cholesterol profile.
As you've probably gathered, cholesterol is complicated...it's not something that I'm good at, and there seems to be much ongoing debate about the roles of so called 'good' and 'bad' cholesterol. So...
Before changing your diet, it would be a good idea to discuss this with your GP or the surgery nurse first 😉.
