Blood levels above 2000

All I have been self injecting alternate days with Methylcobalmin and just got my blood work done by my PCP with blood levels above 2000 . Stopped shots for two weeks and retested still shows 2000 plus. What do I do now. I have added Folic acid and adenocyanocobalmin per Facebook group recently. Can any one advise what I do next. Also is I noticed muscle loss in my legs and arms . Is this related toB12? TIA

First, ignore the Facebook groups. There is no need to take adenosylcobalamin as well as methylcobalamin. Indeed, there’s no need to take methylcobalamin instead of cyanocobalamin. They all end up the same once they’re in the cell. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/258...

The assay they used to test your blood only goes as high as 2000. Your blood levels two weeks ago were probably over 10,000. It will take time for them to drop. If you don’t have an absorption problem then it could take a very long time as 5he body is normally darn good at recycling B12.

Thanks for the reply. If cyanocobalmin works how frequent should be my injections. I have improved on some symptoms like headaches, brain fog, eye pain, vision issues , tinnitus and have some energy now to work but I have not improved on my muscle pain and anxiety/ depression. Also my muscle wasting which I noticed late last year is not improved. Can I continue self injecting as before or should I wait to see if my levels drop. How do we know if my b12 shots are working

Ignore blood levels, they’re meaningless.

You shou,d inject often enough to keep symptoms at bay.

I happened to have this deficiency started after few dental procedure involving nitrous oxide and I was not a meat/ dairy eater until last 10 years as my parents were vegetarians. From last 10 years I was eating chicken/ eggs/ dairy once in a while though so I am assuming I was b12 deficient for some years prior to that. I say that because my sister who got tested after I found mine was also deficient and was experiencing very minor symptoms like headaches .

After my dental procedures my already low b12 might have got inactive and started showing as symptoms is what I am thinking from what I learnt. I also had tests to rule out celiac and IF which cameout normal. Homocysteine/MMA/IF came normal after having couple of injections and supplements so I am not sure how much my results are reliable. I have GI issues like bloating so I am thinking to see if a Endoscopy can reveal anything . Can PA causes be diagnosed with endoscopy

It is likely that your diet reduced your B12 and that the nitrous dropped it even further.

Yes, your hCys and MMA tests could easily have been affected by your supplemting.

PA is caused by Autoimmune Metaplastic Gastric Atrophy. This would be picked up by a gastroscopy.

1. b12 blow tests are not accurate. Ask for Methylmalonic acid test.

2. folic acid is synthetic and causes problems for a lot of people. folate or folinic acid is preferable.

research facts, doctors only treat acute and generic health issues

Before this I was tested 6 months ago just after starting my weekly shots along with MMA test . B12 was 1100 and MMA was 0.15 normal being less than 0.4 . This time doctor did not want to test for MMA.

Since I am self injecting will a MMA test be accurate. Do I need to stop injecting before testing
