Has your doctor done any investigation on this? There is a condition that causes high levels of iron in the blood, where the iron becomes stored around the organs in the body. I believe the treatment for this is to take blood at regular intervals, and so prevent the iron storage from building up.

I go tomorrow. Also, low B-12

Hi

Mariliz is spot on. My friend goes every 2/3 weeks to have blood removed.

I make her have a creative test too as gp is pretty useless. We’ve managed to get her pip too as she’s v dizzy most days.

Good luck

hi there,

if you mean high ferritin which is stored iron and low b12 please get checked for h pylori.

h pylori is a chronic infection, therefore the body tries to starve it (the infection) out, by shuttling iron into storage (ferritin) because infections need iron to survive.

your hemoglobin may be ok, as mine was, as the body continues to maintain homeostasis (steady state or normalness) in that area. however on a full iron panel your iron saturation percentage and serum iron levels will be deficient or low in range. my iron saturation % was 20 and serum iron was 69 while i had h pylori. once h pylori was finally treated (took 2 tries) my iron percentage saturation increased to 35 and serum iron increased to 109.

additionally h pylori reduces stomach acid which causes intrinsic factor not to be produced. intrinsic factor is needed to be able to absorb b12 normally from our food.

to recap: h pylori messes up your b12 and iron. b12 goes down, iron saturation percentage and serum iron goes down due to the infection while ferritin (iron storage) may go up.

if you have h pylori, just know, it is contagious, so everyone in your family will need tested or else you could end up getting it passed back to you.

you cannot take any acid reducers for a minimum of 14 days prior to testing by breath or stool test, if you want a reliable test result.

hope this helps. best of luck
