Hi everybody, im after a little help after a confusing trip to my doctors, little background, around 18 months ago started losing weight with no dietary or lifestyle changes, had a few stomach issues, pains/cramps etc blood tests came back clear told possible ibs. Still losing weight (told as a steady rate of loss nothing to worry about) so went back, another blood test came back showing nothing again, was asked if i was starving myself or an i stressed/depressed none of which i am. I now struggle to gain weight, i went from 9st 6lb to 8st been told for 5ft 4 im still a healthy weight and as my bloods are clear then im fine. Now having more symptoms, hair falling out, hair breaking off easily, beaus lines repeatedly on nails, toe nails lifting away from beds, brain fog, my depth perceptions gone all weird, just not feeling myself. Doc arranged another blood test, this one all thats flagged up is a very minor vitamin D deficiency he said not enough to cause symptoms and to take over the counter supplements. To go back in 3 months if im still not happy or to go back if i continue to lose weight. I asked for a copy of blood test results, now from what i can see he hasn't tested me for vitamin D, i think i may be low on folate, and a couple of my bloods look on the lower end of any scales i can find on Google, my print off doesn't show ranges so im having to google but there is so much conflicting information ! Think i can only post one photo but i do have 3 pages of results

What were the dates for the folate/B12 tests?

Folate levels tend to be responsive to diet

B12 levels tend not to vary with time unless you have an absorption problem in which case you will see them falling - but this does take a long time - years or even decades. On the face of it it doesn't look as if you have a B12 absorption problem.

The white cell counts tend to be markers of infection - which could include a parasitic infection.

in which case I think you can rule out B12 deficeincy/a B12 absorption problem as those levels have been quite steady over a period of 3 years.

Thankyou, something somewhere is off, just a case of nailing it down but at least i can cross B12 off my list, so possibly low folate level is just dietary then

Sorry to hear of your problems. I have PA and terrible gastro problems including losing weight. Can I suggest you get tested for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth as if you have enough stomach acid and your pancreatic function is fine and your gallbladder is ok it could be that parads are in your small intestine (where they should not be) and they are eating your food and starving you of nutrients. It often presents with abdominal pain and bloating. Just a thought.
