Yesterday I received the results of a group of tests I had done, one of which included Active B12. The result was B12 1476 pmol/L (140-724) which is not surprising as I inject B12 and the lab knew this. I emailed them to say that this was a serum B12 not an active B12 test and their reply was that they only do active B12, inferring I am wrong and the result is for active B12.
I have never had an active B12 test done before but I am pretty sure that the reference range would not be as large as the above and that it would be fairly unlikely (or impossible) for me to have an active B12 result twice the upper range.
Am I having a psychotic episode? I emailed them yesterday giving my reasons to doubt it was an active B12 test and am awaiting their reply.
Although not relevant to this site, they also left off a morning cortisol test, which they admitted to and said the lab would run it for me. The blood sample was taken over 2 weeks ago so: a) how viable is 2 week old blood and b) I am surprised they would still have it.
I am really annoyed with them and have now lost total faith in all my results.
