At my wits end.

Have lots of symptoms of pa. Have a family history of pa - dad, gran, aunt. Have underactive thyroid (autoimmune) for the past 5 years. Have antibodies for b12 but have come back in normal range for b12 at 393. Have made yet another appointment with the doctor, can I push for b12 injections to see if there is any improvement in my symptoms? Can anyone give me any advice?

Do you have any neuro symptoms? If you do it will help your case in getting jabs; however, in my experience the GPs as soon as they see normal range they need a lot of persuading

have antibodies for B12 - does that mean that IFA test came back positive - in which case they should really put you on injections for life rather than waiting for you to become ill because your levels have dropped.

Were you supplementing at all before the test and if so with what dosages?

It was presence of antibodies that prompted the doctor to check my b12 levels. No supplements taken for a good few months. Have another appointment with my doctor in a fortnight and will try to get some more answers then.

In my experience, even as a doctor, I could not insist on injections with a very similar personal and family history to you. I knew that was the correct treatment as I had neurological symptoms and my husband now injects me every other day. If your GP refuses to treat you correctly take matters into your own hands with help and support from this blog to ensure that you do not deteriorate while your GP educated himself and swallows his own pride

Just thought I'd update. I went to see my doctor today armed with lots of information - I felt like I was going into battle. Although initially reluctant he agreed to a loading dose of B12 (5 injections over the next 2 weeks) to see if there is any improvement in my symptoms. To be reviewed in 3 months. Will let you know how I get on!
