Follow up B12 bloods

Hey, i was diagnosed with being B12 deficent in October last year, i took my 5 loading doese in two weeks and waited 6 months for a follow up blood test which was taken on Tuesday.

My original test said my B12 level was 121, it has gone up to 208 and the doctors say that no more action is needed.

Is that correct?

Thanks

Hi Natty

I can feel another furious moment coming on again, what a load of rubbish if your b12 was 121 last year and your gp gave you injections what have they done since to investigate the low levels. Even at 208 you are deficient. Did your gp check your bloods for other signs like folate and ferritin and did they suggest a reason for the low levels?

You are right to query this and there is so much you need to follow up, if you have any blood test results could you post them on the forum and it will help others to offer support. You also need to know whether this may be Pernicious anemia. What symptoms took you to your gp and have they improved. May people on this site have had similar issues and sadly you cannot rely on your gp knowing much about b12 so arm yourself with the correct information and go along with someone to your next appointment who can vouch for you and take along the guidelines etc which are available on the forum.

Do hope you get sorted and I will go and put my head in the electric oven as we have no gas😨

Hi Mark,

Many thanks for your reply. My original blood results are in my previous posts if you would like to take a look and let me know your comments it would be much appreciated!!

They did lots and lots of other tests including folate and everything else came back pretty normal (these results are also in my previous posts).

I originally went to the Dr. for chest pain, anxiety, depression and upset stomach. I was finding it hard to eat i would feel really really sick etc. I also am really tired all the time even if i get lots of sleep.

My chest pain and bad stomach have gone now. But i am still extremely tired even after 8 hours sleep, i also get confused at times and can't remember words i want to use (if that makes sense) my depression has gone but i still get moments of anxiety. The only other thing is heart palpitations, most common in the evening or when getting into bed. It feels like my heart misses a beat and then the next few are really really strong ones and i loose my breath a bit. This happens at least once a week.

Thanks for your help

Gosh, this sounds just like me. I've only just been diagnosed so I'm only just getting my head around it all and can't offer advice, but just thought I'd say you're not alone.
