Has anyone with pernicious anemia had an experience with Lasik/PRK?
Lasik/PRK: Has anyone with pernicious... - Pernicious Anaemi...
Lasik/PRK
sorry - no experience of either type of eye laser surgery
are you thinking about eye laser surgery?
I have not. What are your concerns? Are you planning on having it done?
I would get a couple of opinions from optometrists before you commit to anything.
I had the very old fashioned laser treatment in 1999 and 2000 ( you had to have one eye done at a time, and vision came back gradually over 3-5 days, this treatment is redundant now)
It wasn't really successful and I only managed without any glasses for about 5 years, if that. I was later told it was because of the astigmatism in my eyes, which might not be a problem with more modern methods, but do check if you have this.
As you have a diagnosis of P.A I think you could also ask your GP to contact the eye dept of your local hospital and ask doctors there if it is advisable or not.
Hi ratch
I had lasik done on both eyes in 2012, about six months before I was diagnosed with PA. I had no problems with the surgery or recovery (the sight was clear the next morning so I could do my bit on a 400km drive home) and it's still good now (only minor gritty eye on one side) but I do take a long time to come out of anaesthesia - not sure if that's down to the PA or just me, though. From reading other things on this site it seems that anaesthetics can affect the B12 level in your blood so it might be as well to mention it to the eye surgeon and your GP beforehand. It's definitely worth doing the surgery in my opinion/experience.
