Does anyone have recommendations for what type of diet is good for PA? I am gluten free but still have bouts of digestive issues. Thanks

I've found that it doesn't matter what I eat I can end up with issues with my digestive system. The only thing that never upsets it is crisps (thank goodness) as some days that's all I fancy eating. As it's something that I get from time to time I've decided that it's just another part of the condition and put up with it.

pslmt I agree with Penni but then I had two thirds of my stomach removed 57 years ago so food and I never agree. However to be constructive I suggest you make sure you have healthy levels of Folate to process the B12 you are having injected so "Eat your greens"

Oh! I and just love minichips...... There must be something about P.A. and fried potato :)

Quite possibly as chips like crisps never upset me so when I refuse either then everyone knows that I'm really ill and need help

Minichips are a standing joke in my family - I even get given packets as Christmas and birthday presents :)

If you have PA, you also have low or no stomach acid ( Hypochlorhydria or Achlorhydria) which causes gastric problems, as the stomach flora is upset Probiotics help this , I used a very good probiotic called Symprove which is unfortunately expensive . I now make my own organic raw sauerkraut ( Google for recipe ) it should be ORGANIC AND EATEN RAW . Contains a huge variety of probiotics and is cheap to make . If serious lack of acid, there are hydrochloric acid with pepsin capsules available ( Amazon) Follow instructions carefully . Otherwise try organic cider vinegar diluted as a drink before meals . fbirder of this forum uses lime juice to add acid and swears by it . Hope this is helpful for you . Best wishes .

Thank you for very good advice. I am now taking a very good probiotic and eating raw kraut again. I firmly believe there is a link between the PA and the loose stools/diarrhea. I also give myself methylcobalamin weekly. Planning to lengthen the time between injections. I'm learning to listen to my body.

Can I just add to Wedgewood's reply...

Make sure to get organic cider vinegar with the probiotic culture, & make sure you shake the bottle gently, to mix this in, as it tends to sink to the bottom. I use it as a salad dressing, too. Indigestion can be caused by low stomach acid, & antacids exacerbate this problem.

I've also found daily kefir for probiotics has improved my digestion & reduced indigestion. I pnly have a jiffy stomach if I eat something processed, or trigger foods. Raw or partially cooked onion is the worst, also milk chocolate, but I'm fine on the good dark stuff.

The achlorhydria (lack of stomach acid) can be fixed by consuming acid with larger meals. The form that caid takes will depend on flavour you like. Personally, I prefer lime juice - about 30 ml diluted with orange, water, tonic, gin, tomato juice, whatever is around. Sometimes, when there's nothing to dilute it I'll swallow it down neat.

The simplest way to try to keep your gut bacteria balanced is to take one Bio-Kult capsule each morning. You can buy it from Amazon.

I've followed these two procedures for quite a while and found they work as well as anything else I've tried (raw sauerkraut, betaine.HCl capsules, SYmprove) while being a lot tastier and cheaper.
