Notice from your other post that you have been on shots for 7 years. If that is the case then a serum B12 test is pretty meaningless unless it shows a really low result.

The serum B12 test just says how much B12 there is in your blood - it doesn't say what types of B12 are there - eg if you are managing to convert hydroxo to methylated forms. It says even less about what is happening with B12 at the cell level.

Yes, there may be other things going on - unfortunately autoimmune problems tend to come in clusters so really not outside the realms of possibility.

Another possibility is a functional B12 deficiency - ie high in blood but none actually getting through to cells in a useable form because of another auto-immune response that tries to shut down the transport mechanism (antibodies to TCII. The only thing I have come across in terms of treating this in people with a B12 absorption problem is a paper by a neurologist in Oxford who reported that patients seemed to respond well to repeated high doses of B12.

Although I haven't had this tested out it certainly seems to fit with my own experience - which is one of running out of B12 within 24 hours of a shot ... though by taking large doses (mainly nasal sprays) I manage very well.

Yes, the Vit D certainly wouldn't have helped things.

Hope you get everything sorted and feel much better soon

My doctor has done just the same Crawford1969 he did send me for an MRI and once I get the results of that and speak with the doctor again if I get no joy I shall change doctors, I can't leave my health it the hands of an idiot anymore, that idiot doesn't have to live with the pain. I so understand your frustration.
