I am one of the lucky one's that have my injection quite often every 5 weeks, but my problem is i am still very breathless, it's like when i breathe i need to breathe deeper its not doing me any good, iam not out of breath by general walking, just need to breathe deep to get the oxygen but if i try to do anything like carry washing upstairs or like yesterday putting leaves in the wheel barrow and burning them on a bonfire then that's it i'm gasping...i am very foggy and get confused easily, i have burning bottoms of my feet, i have a pressing feeling on my back left ribcage, its like someone is pocking me in the back...I Went to London from Wales to have the Active B12 test done, I have had my results back, 256.0 pmol/L 25.1-165.0 which is high probably because of 5 weekly injections, last bloods my mcv are 96.9fl 76-100 mch 33pg 27.0-34.0 is this still to high is this making me breathless and foggy, my doctor has made me an appointment with the Hemotologist, they did not want to see me because of the active test results..... i'm frustrated is it the b12 or is there something else wrong with me....

Hi Metro,

A high MCV can also be caused by folate deficiency, which can also cause neurological symptoms. Do you know if serum folate was tested? Also thyroid conditions can cause high MCV. Breathlessness I associate with being iron def, has your serum ferritin (+iron storage) been tested ?

All 3, iron, B12 and folate need to be in optimum supply for good blood production, and other (B) vitamins and minerals are needed, so taking a good multi vitamin can help to make sure you have a good supply with out to many in balances. If you give a lot of one vitamin (B12) then it may not be used if others (particularly folate) are not there or supply is depleted.

I hope this helps,

Kind regards,

Marre.

You have exactly described what I experienced when I tried to reduce from 2 to 3 weekly injections recently. It took a few weeks for the breathlessness to settle again. I took an injection, followed with one in a week then 2 weekly again. Things are much better now. Try more frequent injections if you can or other supplements. It is wise to get marre's suggestions checked though.
