Have been experiencing the symptoms of b12 deficiency - exhaustion, sore tongue with ulcers, headaches, tinnitus etc. for a few months now, have been tested for lots of things and everything is fine. Tried to get a test for b12 deficiency, but the lab would not do the test - apparently there is a national shortage of the agent used to test it or something? Was wondering if anyone else had the same problem and if you think I would be able to get a test if I went private rather than nhs

Difficulty getting b12 deficiency tested?
Hi
My husband had his tested a few weeks ago and has since started on B12 injections. I have read that some labs maybe changing over from the serum B12 to active B12 test (this is more accurate as it actually shows what's in the cells), so wonder if this has something to do with it. I would ask your G.P. if he can check it out.
You can get a private test at Blue Horizon Labs, (Active) or Myrios (serum)
Hope this helps.
Best wishes browny

Hi
I have not heard of a shortage of the test agent, but the labs seem to not want to do the tests more frequently than every three months (so I've been told). I have started getting injections this week though and the prescription I have could not be filled as there is a shortage of the b12 supplement. Thankfully the doctors had a stash so I could still get them. Sorry I couldnt be more help. It has taken me just over two years to get treatment, hopefully you can be tested soon, good luck
