BPPN.....VERTIGO... Hi one day I woke and as I got up the rom was spinning, I was stumbling and the dizziness was dreadful, even if I didn't move my head....doc said Inner ear Infection, nausea was terrible too.....been refered to EAR NOSE THROAT, urgent....still waiting....however, just wondered if others have had this, I had vertigo once before, but never like the second episode....any info would be great

I had it and it lasted strongly for a few weeks. Year 2006? I sat still
and held m head looking straight forward. I didn't move from my spot
except to go to the doctor, the mri and the neuro. I was sure that I had
a stroke. I was so bad that they gave me some very strong Valium.
I puked every single time I had to go use the bathroom. It felt like I
just came off of a spinning ride constantly.
I was given a set of exercises to do every single hour of the day. I did them
even though I was sure that I would die from vertigo.. I had to do them, my
brain scan looked normal.. I was told that I wouldn't get better if I didn't do
them . By week 1, I was 25% better. I hope that you will get the same ones.
Also I was given some anti nausea pill. Between that and the Valium, I was
so tired that I just slept and slept. It went a way by 90% by 4 weeks.. I
still cannot move my head in one position or I will get dizzy- to return to
the most desperate state of mind. The room didn't just spin, the floors
seemed to be tilted as well (they weren't)
It will pass but you have to learn to turn your body instead of your head...it
takes the brain a few seconds to keep up with the movement of the head
when vertigo hits hard.. Good Luck..Sorry that you ran into this. Keep

Yikes, thank you so much for your reply, means so much to me, yes I felt exactly as you described it, thing is, I'm in Uk, and over here they won't do brain scans, I truly thought I had a tumour growing(My Dad died from that).. Guess that's why I worried soooo much, my doc who is fab! said he would refer me urgently! but still waiting! I fact got a letter to say I'm on waiting list???.but I will still go even though it's almost gone 99.99%....bent down yest and went dizzy! but havnt felt like I've got it today.......wil let you know how I get on, assuming it comes back. Hi, i had a similar experince, and it was very scary and like you just woke up with it.I was refered to ENT specialist, it turned out the crystal in my inner ear had become detached.I was given certain exercises to do and ear drops and medication for the dizziness and sickness.I had regular checks under the ENT department and it settled down on its own accord after approx two months and touch wood no further attacks since.
There is certain ear condtions that have the symtoms you describe, but it would be advisable to wait for the specialist opinion.I wish you well, and hope you have a positive outcome

Like Yikes I have suffered from exactly the type of condition you describe and yes it also lasted for weeks, I could not even stand for the first 14 days and it was approximately 4 to 6 weeks before I could get into a car, even as a passenger. My research has shown that there appear to be 3 similar conditions and they are:-
1. Labyrinthitis, normally this inner ear condition is caused by a thickening of the fluid in the Labyrinth following a cold or flu and whilst unpleasant, it is the least of the conditions, this is often treated with a drug called Stemetil.
2. This Is a condition referred to as BPPV and this was not, when I had it, treatable by drugs, but your ENT people will possibly be able to offer you a treatment based on moving your head in a certain way, the reason for this, is that it is caused by free calcium particles floating around and totally disrupting the nerve ending in your balance mechanism. The head movements are designed to relocate the particles into an area where they will not cause this problem and in many cases it works well and it's painless. However, it is stated as being very likely to return within the next 5 years.
3. This is a condition called MPV and the symptoms are very similar to BPPV. However, I understand this is treatable. As I understand it, the only way to tell the difference between the two, is in the time it takes for the world to stop spinning after if starts. IE. If you move and create the spinning and then stay totally still, if things re-stabilize in 40 seconds or less, then it is likely that you have BPPV, if they take 50 to 80 seconds, then you could be suffering from MPV.
You and your GP are making a good move by sending you to ENT, they should be able to provide a better diagnosis and if necessary, pass you on to Neurology.
I have to jump back in here for a second... there was a time
during the "bad spell" that I had of BPPV when the room
stopped spinning but I had some sort of feeling that was
like I was tipping backward over my right shoulder..
After this happened, I mean like exactly when my symptoms
ended, I started in with Panic Attacks that were ruining my life.
They lasted for 3 mins each time but I would get 4 to 6 of them
in an hour. I quit leaving the house.. this was back in 2006?
I was still refusing to move my head..just my body.. my doctor
did not like that so he decided to introduce me to Paxil because
of the panic that would set in... I was so scared, tense, paralyzed
with fear that it would come on again..I had an outstanding boost
of confidence and went right back to working..
Later on, I tried to get off of the Paxil.. actually several times.. and
I ended up right back in that same place.. the feeling of tipping
backwards over my right shoulder returned...My stomach
started to hurt (ulcer like) again...so I stayed on this Paxil to
today.. It kind of upsets me that the doctor didn't tell me how
hard it is to get off paxil.. Now it's being used very successfully
as pain control for my RA..and apparently it's working because
I am not looking or feeling the part much these days...
It's not helping me to get my body in correct balance at all so I
really want to quit with it..(the Paxil) but I will not live with the
dizziness either so I am tapering down and planning to be
off of it by the first of the new coming year.. Even though I
switched over to an organic paxil type pill, it's still causing
a lot of issues with me that are wrecking my good sleep.
I have had this for several years but it is kept under control with betahistine tablets every day. Is there a link with PA? Was diagnosed with PA in 2010.
You had this for years??? WOW! I had another form of that
anti nausea pill and had to stop. Vomiting caused a very fast
weight loss and part of it was because of that anti-nausea pill.
I was knocked out cold for most of the time. I crawled on the
floor to get where I had to. Valium was very powerful for me.
The very best advice that I can give you being that I had this just
once in my lifetime is to do those exercises even if you puke
through them. Falling backwards onto the bed..as in a Nestle
Plunge style was the worst one..My youngest daughter used to
catch me by laying on her back using her feet to help me fall
more slowly. She helped me to do the head turns.. My weight
loss was 35 pounds. I drank water like crazy.. just tap water though.
Walk in faith that it will not happen to you again. It might not but
remember to move your neck and head slowly..the brain needs
a little extra time to catch up to the movement. =)
Thats what I am wondering. Had B12 injections and one week later got Labyrinthitis is it coincidence ? You poor thing having it for several yrs
