Now what?

Three years ago I developed a tremor in my dominant arm. At the same time I developed a Deep Vein Thrombosis in the same arm. Then a 100% obstruction of the LAD coronary branch. The LAD is also known as the widow maker. A stent plus drugs cleared all that up but nothing has helped get rid of the tremor. I started with propranolol, then on to Sinemet then amantadine then ropinirole. Also tried CBD. Nothing helped so far. Then one week ago I had botox in the arm and wrist. So far no improvement. The next step might be Ceylon cinnamon. I just ordered some from Amazon. What else if this doesn't help?

I have mild intermittent tremor. Cinnamon helped my motor impairment but did not make any difference in my tremor.

Thanks for the reply. "Motor impairment" means slow movement or freezing? I don't have any of that. For me the only problem is tremor which is a lot worse when it's cold. Last night with four blankets I was shivering and tremoring at bedtime.

In my case it means difficulty in moving the affected limb.

Is is due to pain or numbness?

Not pain. It feels like the nerve signals for movements do not connect very well.

Good way to describe it...

My fathers tremors got worse the more dairy he ate. Do you eat dairy? An anti inflammatory diet will obviously help with overall health but may help reduce your tremor as well.

Lactose intolerance so no dairy at least 20 years.

How much protein? High protein intake? Protein causes inflammation. Gluten? My Daddy went through this. I’m so sorry. Have you tried MCT oil? I’m not implying it is a cure but a little helpful. My hands quiver (not full on tremors) until I take MCT oil. (I tremor a little just enough to identify it as PD) It’s weird that the MCT oil helps but it helps and I don’t know why it does but I really believe it does.

I have worked my way up to 1 1 1/2 tablespoons a day. I add it to my green smoothies.

I take the Garden of Life brand

Stupid question LOL. What is MCT oil? Thank you!

in reply to Godiv

Medium chain triglycerides

Dr. Perlmurtter talks about the benefits. Can be found on YouTube

There is a lot of evidence showing the benefits of ketogenic diets. Problem is like all types of diets it's hard to stick with long term. I tried fasting, lost 30# in 4 months but ultimately regained the 30#.

Then I was helped along when a horse kicked me in my face shattering my jaw. Too few solid pieces for plates and screws so my jaw was wired shut for 8 weeks. I lived on yogurt with orange juice stirred in to make it thin enough to sip through a straw. Like fasting I lost a lot of weight quickly.

With Parkinson's I've tried a lot of things because Sinemet doesn't work for me. It's a long list and anyone whose been on this site for months will have done similar things. The latest trial is Ceylon Cinnamon, expected in the mail any day now.

Ketogenic diets are problematic because the simplest way is eating meat. I don't care for meat. As a veterinarian in practice nearly 40 years when I eat bacon a corner of my mind is asking whether this had been a patient of mine.

Perhaps MCT is something to try. The fastest way to ketosis starts with burning off the 3500 calories suspended in blood and liver. Once these glycogen calories are gone the body is forced to use fat for energy. And I'm back to the Atkins Diet.

MCT should speed the body's conversion.

Kayleigh, keeping in mind that you had so many vascular issues i wonder if you ever had imaging study done on your brain to see if you suffered from the vascular parkinsonism. If you never discussed this with your neurologist I would.

Dr Google says vascular parkinsonism shows none of the lesions typical with true Parkinson's Disease. I've wanted a DAT scan but the neuros keep putting it off. I wondered if I have Manganism, a disease of welders. It mimics PD but a DAT scan shows no lesions in the corpora nigricans. So now I have two reasons to push for a DAT. Thanks for the note.

I hope you get your DAT scan; I think felixned may be onto something.

Do you have normal BP and LDL, atherosclerosis?

You may want to look into fucoidan; it is anti-thrombotic and also anti-autoimmune (there may be an autoimmune component) You should talk to the doctor before trying supplements. NAC and nattokinase are also anti-thrombotic. [I take all three, so far I have not had bleeding issues, but I think I tend towards being clotty rather than bleedy. No strokes yet, but my sister had multiple before age 60]

Notes on fucoidan:

Another thing to consider is boosting nitric oxide production. Supplements are available*, but it can also been done with functional foods (foods containing anthocyanins e.g., hibiscus, acai, blueberries and those containing nitrites e.g., arugula, beets) and other interventions such as cardio exercise and Pranayama breathing techniques including 'bee breathing' - which is basically just humming at a low tone.

Here's my YT playlist on nitric oxide:

youtube.com/playlist?list=P...

* some NO boosting supplements have ingredients than might not be all that safe & I would ask dr. before trying. Beets have a lot of oxalates and that can cause kidney stones if consumed in excess (as I learned from eating too many beets chips). Hawthorn berry tea made my BP drop so fast I became dizzy; I can tolerate hibiscus tea just fine.

(Low NO production can be caused by auto-antibodies to paraoxonase 1 enzyme, which is one possible link to autoimmunity:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/318...

)

Hibiscus tea is high in manganese, so maybe don't try it. I know black tea is high in manganese but it does not apparently raise blood levels, but I don' think there is any research on hibiscus. Sorry. Whole foods like blueberries that are high in manganese are not a problem.
