Hi friends,

Please share your experience about how you were able to gain back some weight after losing weight due to pd.What and when do you eat,so as not to affect c/l,if you are taking it?I would be very grateful for your contribution.

Hi OREOLU:

I have never had the problem of having to gain weight, but I still have some advice for you.

First, I think you should not endeavor just to "gain weight"... Rather you should endeavor to gain muscle.

You can do this by:

1. strength training regularly (e.g., I find every other day is good)

2. eat a lot of protein (in your case, after your last dose)

You can get started with body weight exercises like push-ups and squats... To keep it interesting, keep track of how many you can do, and set goals to increase this amount...

FYI, I can currently do 35 push-ups... and this is much more than I ever could do when I was younger... And I hope to make it to 50...

Btw, if you want to gain fat, eat lots of carbs and fat (e.g., donuts) (I don't recommend this!).

Hi rescuema

I am already exercising, but as regards protein,I only eat it at night due to interactions with c/l.

I'm with Hidden that you should probably concentrate on gaining your muscle mass. I have battled weight issue all my life with a very high metabolism and there's really no other better healthier way than weight/resistance training (not too much cardio) to gain healthy weight. As for the carbs, try organic beans such as garbanzo beans, red kidney beans, etc. that are lower in oxalates. When you gain more muscle, you can afford to up your other healthy carbs as well and still improve insulin sensitivity. Start with knee push-ups and work your way up - you'll be surprised how quickly you get better as long as you keep at it. Get some dumbbells or use even gallon water jugs and do some curls and squats - search Youtube videos such as youtube.com/results?search_...

Zinc deficiency can also cause weight loss, so be sure to supplement if you're not already.

Milkshakes. I normally don't drink them but last year I needed to gain 13 pds so don't drink them too often after you gain the weight. I agree with Levod, exercise & protein will help with the muscle you'll need to stay healthy.

My tremor was so bad I got down to 105lbs last year. Now after brain surgery and much less tremor I am up to 137! Tremor burns calories and even with eating a ton I could not hold weight,

My husband managed to regain the 10kgs he had lost by drinking smoothies made with bananas, dates, cashews, almond milk, vanilla, tahini, kale or spinach, cacao and honey. You could leave out the cashews and substitute water for the almond milk for less protein. Also use blueberries for a change (without the cacao for a better taste) and add ice blocks in the summer.

I added buckwheat noodles to cooked dishes (stews etc) where possible.

In between meals he’d eat bananas, banana sandwiches, bananas on toast, banana wraps etc (he loves bananas!!) 😆

I also like a banana and peanut butter sandwich as an occasional treat. 😄

I switched to a Keto Diet and then full Carnivore Diet and managed to get back to 70kg having lost muscle and slipped to 65kg on the’ recommended’ food pyramid crap! I make sure to eat more than 30 minutes away from taking the c/levodopa and basically eat a lot of fatty beef trimmings, steak and lambs liver, heart and kidneys which I love. I don’t count calories and eat when I’m hungry!

Best regards, Phil 2bats

Whatever you do, don't mix high fat and high carb. It should be either or. Cut out as much sugar as possible since it's very pro-inflammatory.

Lef.org (Lifeextension.com) writes that the supplements creatine & whey protein are beneficial for pwps. Those two supplements will help with lean weight gain when combined with weight resistance exercise.

The only caveat is that Creatine, while helpful, can be pretty hard on the kidneys (drink looooots of water) and whey protein can be pro inflammatory in some people. I've tried a gazillion protein powders in my life but I believe a well balanced colorful (greens, reds, blues, etc) diet full of antioxidants is the best.

Caution. I would NOT recommend this method...

How to lose 30 pounds in semi-short order.

I got food poisoning from a large chicken bought at a large supermarket and spent *5 * days in bed interspersed with manic running to the 'john' to sit or to wretch into it, All while a new Soapstone kitchen counter was being installed and my wife had to be the 'push' for the tradesmen...

Captain! we have achieved getting rid of 10 lbs. of Adipose fats from the Subject, only 20 to go....

Being a.Parkie , as we all get to know is a bit of a balancing act with C/L meds and Protein. I am a milk lover I could down a pint in one go. Wife suggested that I could could have a lot less fats and protein if I stop the spontaneous milk drinking......

So I went to organic Whole milk, non homogenized,, you have to scoop off the butter fats that float to the top, essentially Skim milk with globs in it.

Next I wanted to attempt to replace the 10 pounds of ... with some muscle hopefully

That I did by trying to improve my 1 km swim time of 45 minutes (backstroke) since my bypass surgery. I managed to get down to 30 minutes non stop. Why backstroke? I wanted to strengthen my back muscules to aid with getting rid oof the parkie stoop....

The result of all that stroking the waters feverishly, and religeous 3 times a week was the LOSS of 20 # of muscle and fat and lvfooking like dear old Grandmother at 93 with those bags of loose skin where your Tricep muscle should be... In reality I was cannibalizing my muscles each time I swam... At the same time I also cut way back on meat protein to lessen the fat proportion.... Beans and other plant base stuff is a poor substitute for my body

I need some professional advice!

Wife: I'm going to phone 'E' one of our God-children who just happens to be a Dietician/Nutritionist that specialized in 'Anorexics'. Her Professional opinion, based on her patient's results is IT CAN TAKE UP TO 2 YEARS FOR THE BODY TO START WHOLY DIGESTING PROTEINS AGAIN. .. It has been 6 months of eating as much as I can (I still have a good appetite) and 5 months of Covid and I have gained 4.8 pounds... Tooal weight 164.8

Hope this is of help.
