Bio-kult holds the patent for the strain.

Bio Kult seem to have two related products. Bio-Kult Advance whcih has 14 Bacteria strains including Bacillus subtilis and Bio-Kult Mind which just has Bacillus subtilis as the only strain. I wonder which might be the best option?

The Bio Kult (Mind) has ONLY the PXN21 strain, while the Bio Kult Advanced has other strains too in addition to PXN21. Seems to me that 'Mind' is available only on the UK website. If I am not mistaken, 'Mind' was recently introduced to the market - late 2019. Not available in the US ? or Amazon . For now have ordered 'Advanced', but next time would prefer 'Mind'.

Jonh, the bio kult mind can be found also on ebay in the UK.

Look what I found,

What do you think about it?

Exciting ! Hopefully it works like a charm. Will order in a couple of months as I have already placed an order for my mother of Bio Kult Advanced - 120 capsules - enough for 2 months @ 2/day. Also, you could go to the company website in UK and order. Not sure if they will ship to the US. Need to correspond and ask them.

I also bought the MIND and it will arrive on January 30 I will let you know, but the original research of the Argentine doctor (2017) says that other types of b Subutilis can go well and that it will start a research on man.

How did you do that, Gio ? The International Sales page of the Boots site is closed :-(

BTW I just wrote to ADM Protexin Limited in GB.

Thanks Gio, but it works only in Italy. Nothing in the french eBay pages. I ordered the "Advanced"....

Hi Xeno, maybe “Advance” is better ... I ordered The two type to try. Take a look to The original reserch here:

alzforum.org/news/conferenc...

it would seem that other types of baccillus subutilis may also work well.

Started (yesterday) giving 2 capsules/day (Bio-Kult Advanced) to my mother. Have 2 -month supply. While I am not expecting any miracle in 2 months, would really like to give Bio-Kult Mind for about 6 months to see if it makes a real difference. Hopefully, Mind will be available in the US pretty soon. To be frank, getting tired of trying out different supplements. However, no complaints as long as condition does not worsen. ( fact is some aspects have improved).

Got Bio-Kult Mind (shipped from the UK to US) and will start giving 2 capsules/day from today. Also giving 1 Bio-Kult advanced capsule/day.

Like many other over the counter supplements before, people like to try new things if there is no potential harm in doing so. I think most people are pretty sensible and don’t actually have ‘unrealistic expectations ‘ but don’t always want to stand idly by and wait........

Got an email from the company in UK (Protexin) regarding availability of Bio-Kult MIND capsule in the USA.

Reply from the representative reads as :

'Unfortunately Bio-Kult MIND is currently unavailable in the USA. It is going through the registration process and should be available from Summer 2020'.

Wanted to share this info - Bio-Kult MIND is available in the Amazon UK website (60 capsules for 20 British Pounds + shipping). Not sure if they will ship it to US address. Also, you may have to enter your credit card info again. even if you already have it on US Amazon US website. Those who are interested may want to give it a try. If anyone of you goes ahead, please let the forum know.

I just read on the Bio-Kult.com website that the MIND formulation includes grapefruit extract and blueberry extract. I know that grapefruit juice should be carefully consumed, if not completely avoided by those of us on C/L, as it affects the amount of dopamine available.

Might the extract require a similar caveat?

pyckle_syckle profile image

Cancel the grapefruit alarm!

I just now was looking at the product information page for the MIND formulation on the Bio-Kult site and the ingredients list GRAPE extract, NOT grapefruit.

But I rechecked the ‘news’ page featuring Bacillus SubtilisPXN21 and the last line does say “grapefruit and blueberry extracts.”

Or am I crazy?

Drop them a mail. They answer pretty kindly.

It's probably a typo.

I have just started this probiotic this week. My nutritionist recommended HU58 High Potency Bacillus Subtilis by Microbiome Labs.(USA). Available in UK from Natural Dispensary but not cheap at about £55 for 60 caps. One initial indication is that bowel movements are easier and possibly more regular.

John_morris71 profile image

FYI and those who are interested and would like to order Bio Kult (Mind) : It is available on the UK website and they ship to the US. Make sure that the US Credit Card is approved prior to purchase by the credit card company here in the US for the UK transaction. Cost for 3 boxes of 60 capsules each (total 180 capsules) including shipping to US, tax and discount of 15% is around $83.00 (62 British Pounds). Cost of each box (60 capsules) is approx. 20 British Pounds. I am planning on ordering soon. (Got the cost details as I did a mock transaction to see cost and did not press the pay button).

Hi OP, I'm taking the PXN 21 strain in Bio-Kult Mind, bought directly from the producer, Protexin, based in the UK.

I have been taking 2 caps per day since Feb 1st. I do not expect any short-term results, since it is based upon stopping misfolded alpha-synuclein from being produced - and not on destroying the existing ones.

it could take years before showing benefits.

Just my two cents...

Some comments below in the article indicate bacillus subtillis may reverse / improve the misfolded protein.....crossing my fingers that it applies in mice and then humans as well!

Stomach bacteria may slow - and even reverse - Parkinson's disease

The study is published in Cell Reports.

Study Finds

Parkinson's disease, a progressive nervous system disorder that greatly affects movement, can have a detrimental impact on one's quality of life. While there are medications available that help control its symptoms, there is no known cure for the disease. However, researchers from the Universities of Edinburgh and Dundee in Scotland recently identified a potential game changer in the fight against Parkinson's. A common probiotic, or "good" bacteria, found in our stomachs that helps maintain digestive health appears to be able to slow, and even reverse, the accumulation of a protein known to be associated with Parkinson's.

The groundwork for these findings were put in place by prior research that had identified a connection between brain function and gut bacteria. Now, using a group of roundworms, this study has discovered that the probiotic called Bacillus subtilis is capable of stopping the formation of toxic clumps in the brain that impede the flow of dopamine. Dopamine, besides its other uses, is integral to coordinating movement.

Within the brains of Parkinson's patients, the protein known as alpha-synuclein builds up, forming these aforementioned toxic clumps. These clumps then cause the death of nerve cells that should be producing dopamine. It's the loss of these very cells that cause the trademark symptoms of Parkinson's, such as shaking or overall slowness of movement.

The research team used a genetically altered group of roundworms capable of producing the human version of clump-forming alpha-synuclein. These worms were fed a variety of different over-the-counter probiotics, in an effort to see if any of them influenced subsequent clump formation.

The results of the experiment revealed that Bacillus subtilis had a robust protective effect that prevented the buildup of the alpha-synuclein protein. The probiotic even was able to do away with some pre-existing clumps that had already formed within the worms. After being given Bacillus subtilis, the worms movements immediately improved.

"The results provide an opportunity to investigate how changing the bacteria that make up our gut microbiome affects Parkinson's. The next steps are to confirm these results in mice, followed by fast-tracked clinical trials since the probiotic we tested is already commercially available," says Lead researcher Dr. Maria Doitsidou, of the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, in a release.

This piece of research is just the latest in a string of studies over the past few years indicating that the gut microbiome residing in each one our stomachs plays a critical role in brain function.

"Parkinson's is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. Currently there is no treatment that can slow, reverse or protect someone from its progression but by funding projects like this, we're bringing forward the day when there will be," comments Dr Beckie Port, Research Manager at Parkinson's UK. "Changes in the microorganisms in the gut are believed to play a role in the initiation of Parkinson's in some cases and are linked to certain symptoms, that's why there is ongoing research into gut health and probiotics.

"The results from this study are exciting as they show a link between bacteria in the gut and the protein at the heart of Parkinson's, alpha synuclein. Studies that identify bacteria that are beneficial in Parkinson's have the potential to not only improve symptoms but could even protect people from developing the condition in the first place," she concludes.

The study is published in Cell Reports.
