What is the glymphatic system? How is it affected by sleep?

A beginners guide. The lymphatic system is the macroscopic waste clearance system and is affected by sleep!

“This suggests that low activity of the glymphatic system could be a major risk factor for development of neurodegenerative diseases. “

“Obviously there are several ways beyond a chiropractic adjustment to improve CSF flow and the Glymphatic system. It turns out that many of my core health recommendations influence the way cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) enters the brain’s glymphatic system.

Here are a few that you should consider implementing:

Intermittent Fasting

Yoga and movement (especially inversions!) improves CSF

Standing at work instead of sitting moves more CSF

Using WBV or whole body vibration therapy improves CSF

Pranayama and just about any breathing exercises is great for CSF

Massage

Hydration

Exercise (especially rebounding, jumping, running)

Interesting. At least I sleep on my side. What is or how do you do whole body vibration? Sounds like you need a machine of some sort?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't you tell us about Broken Brain 2? I've watched the 1st 3 episodes and think they're excellent. Episodes 4 through 8 air at 6 PM Eastern standard Time.

Yes, a machine is required for whole body vibration therapy. I think one of the lesser known effects is that it can help somewhat with osteoporosis. You stand on a plate that vibrates in such a way that it constantly puts your body out of balance in a subtle way, but enough to cause the subconscious mind to constantly perform muscle corrections which ultimately is said to improve balance, muscle strength and bone strength while improving lymph flow.

That actually makes some sense. I can see how that might strengthen core muscles which is a concern. That is such a far out therapy, I can imagine it might have unknown downsides. Do you think we should be concerned that vibrating our brain inside our skull isn't good for us?

Not having used it, I can't say, but I always felt it would be useful for PWP in building those core muscles to improve balance/stability. A few physical therapy facilities have them, but it seems like fitness centers should have them too, but I think they try to stick to the most popular exercise machines in order to draw customers in.

I have a feeling that the movement in these machines is very subtle, but enough to keep your subconscious mind in a constant state of action during use.

Speaking of whole body vibration therapy and :

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/266...

And apparently the machine should be adjusted by gender:

And this WBV and Parkinson's Disease study apparently never started???

So it doesn't help with spasticity in stroke, spinocerebellar ataxia or multiple sclerosis and some athletic performance may benefit, but no data re PD? I haven't read much anecdotal feedback on here about it either.

One more in PD :

Interesting. Seems things that make you have to focus on movement and balance are useful.

Yes, I am watching them now too. I just have them on while I do housework or cook. I am watching an energy one too which has some good bits:

Start at about 35 minutes if you don’t have time to listen to the whole thing. The beginning you can skim through.

Here is broken brain 2 episode 3 for anyone interested. This episode is on healing frommtoxic beliefs and trauma ps which I know can be contentious! If you don’t like this one don’t write the rest off as some are more chemistry based which seems to appeal to more people who like a more physical explanation for things 😊

I think it may be possible to,watch earlier ones by clicking on the link and editing the 3 to 1 or 2. It seems to open them but I am not sure if they can be successfully played all the way through as they are supposed to be “expired”

Functional medicine seems very common sense. The efficiency of molecular processes are determined and limited by the material they have to work with, i.e., what we send down our gullet.

Yes, I agree. The more on this I read and listen too the less faith I have in doctors for anything that isn’t just an injury or acute infection or virus. Even infections or viruses I suspect the cure causes more damage than letting the body heal itself.
