My husband has been having a bad time of late and has no energy and stays in bed a lot. Today he pulled me down to sit on the bed and hug him and he started to cry hard. This is NOT his personality.
I am wondering if this is the Parkinson's going in a new direction or what. No changes in his Meds in some time.
Did he say why he was crying? It could be depression over his condition (very common). Probably a doctor's visit is a good idea. I personally was started on Mirtazipine 30mg daily at bedtime, which was prescribed by a movement disorder doctor who said it was an older drug but best for PWP. It certainly helped me.
I agree with the suggestion of a visit to the doc/neuro. An easing of depression could help lift energy levels.
I too have had success with mirtazapine (15mg daily at bedtime), although in my case it was mainly to help me get a good night's sleep.

For the last three years I have been taking 15mg of mirtazapine at bedtime every day.
Two weeks ago I stopped, as I decided that using an antidepressant as a sleeping pill might not be a good thing to do over the long term.
So far I'm sleeping pretty well without it, but my tremor seems to have worsened a little.
My plan now is to continue on without it for a couple more weeks and then see how things are.
When I was prescribed it, the movement disorder specialist said it might also help decrease tremors, which was why he said it was particularly good for PWP.
IIThanx. I asked bc my MDS prescribed it for sleep and some mild anxiety. It helped but made me less sharp during the day even when I took half of what she recommended(1/4 tablet instead of 1/2).
And then, I read the fine print which said one had to take it all the time. I was looking for something I could just use as needed, and not yet another drug to be on.
Maybe that was unrealistic b/c w PD “as needed” can be the rest of ones life. In any event I stopped it.
So am curious to hear your experiences post-mirtrazapine.
My PD husband was very depressed and then also started acting strange. He was finally started on Seraquel for psychosis. It has done wonders for him and when he goes off of it, he gets goofy and extremely depressed. It is something to consider.
A visit to the doctor and write to Dr C. Maybe he can help
My husband was put on Citalopram and did much worse. He looked depressed but really he had apathy, no guilt, no sadness, he said he felt "nothing". No cure for apathy apparently but lots of help out there for depression, so make sure his symptoms are consistent enough to warrant meds....which all have side effects! He is doing much better mentally with caffeine pills, more motivated, more involved with life, which was very unexpected after seven years of mind fog and lack of motivation.
He was crying because he was sorry for all the hurt he has caused me in our 50 years of marriage. Said he had been thinking about it lately.
