Annie81963 , many people with pd take turmeric or curcumin, and a look through past posts will show that, over the last five years, at least. I take 2 curcumin capsules at morning and at night (600mg caps) in combination with olive leaf extract at the same time, plus other supplements and my regular pd medication which is Sinemet CR or controlled release version. The curcumin capsules that I take, also contain a black pepper extract to help with absorption. I was first diagnosed in 2013, and have been taking curcumin for at least a couple of years, and I find that it does help a lot. Before, I used to find that my first Sinemet of the day in the morning (usually about 6 a.m.) was very slow to work. I was prescribed a Eldepryl 5mg tablet once a day before my first Sinemet. It is selegiline. Since using curcumin, I stopped using the selegiline before my first Sinemet. The black pepper extract acts as a catalyst, and the black pepper extract in combination with the curcumin and the olive leaf extract, enhance the effect of Sinemet and anything else. I also believe and there is some evidence in the literature to indicate this, that curcumin and olive leaf extract help the good gut bacteria, which in turn help your brain cells. There are neurones in the gut that communicate with neurones in the brain. Any future cure for pd will surely be connected to our gut bacteria. Look at the links on this subject as well.
