Wanted to say hi.

My name is Debbie. I've been diagnosed with PD 2 years. Also am bi-polar. Nasty combo. I take Carbodopa-Levodopa and Sintemet (I know I must be spelling these wrong) for the PD. I don't have tremors but extreme stiffness, shuffling, bad OH. I'd been fighting depression and haven't taken care of myself-like keeping active and so it seems my stiffness is even worse. But a recent medication change in my meds for bipolar has made a wonderful difference and now I'm ready to fight!

Good morning happyladi_55 and welcome. Am i right to assume from your sign on you are 55.

You will find a vast amount of knowledge here. Use it to improve your life and the people around you. I was diagnosed 12 years ago (at age 52) and still live a very active life. No one can tell you how you how fast you will progress just take it as you get it. Live everyday like it is the last day of your life and live it to the fullest.

Just for your information Sinemet is Carbidopa-Levodopa.

Hi Debbie -

Welcome!

Curious about what medication changed and which symptom it helped.

It wasn't a PD medication change, but one for bipolar. I'd been on Effexor XR for a few years, was changed to Trintellex, which made me very anxious, so was given Cymbalta. Worked wonders!

What Parkinson's meds do you take. Your'e post is misleading

You wrote

Carbodopa-Levodopa

Sintemet is Carbodopa-Levodopa

I'm confused....my first neurologist prescribed Sintement and it was awful! Not only did it make me throw up,it was plain painful. My next prescription was for Carbodopa/levadopa and as long as I take it with food, it helps tremendously. I've been on it for several years now. How can they be the same?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be misleading. I take Carb/Levo 25-250 mg 3 times a day and Entacapone 250 mg 3 times daily WITH the Sinemet. That's straight off the bottles.

Dystonia

All over. I also took cymbalta it worked well for the depression but was difficult to come off from. Been on lamictal and klonopin for several years now and they work really well for the bipolar. Botox for dystonia helped some, and anti-spasm meds for curly toes. C/l 25-100&50-200cr for

Pd. Turns around and creates the dystonia but we’re working on it. I wish you a welcome and smooth sailing.

Hi Karen and thank you for the nice welcome. It's also nice to hear from another bipolar/pd patient!

Your symptoms are like mine. I am just starting my day getting ready to start meds and breakfast takes me an hour or more to go from bed to kitchen. I will write more when awake. What changes in your bipolar medication helped?

I had been on Effexor XR for some time, then was put on Trintellex briefly. Did little for the depressive side of my disorder, plus made me terribly anxious. Recently switched to Cymbalta which has helped tremendously!
